Okay…please excuse me if someone else has asked already…
I popped my bone broth cherry today with my instapot. Yay!!! I made chicken bone broth using bones from 2 stewing hens…but i have no idea how to calculate macros for this…

The recipe:

2 stewing hens roasted(salt sprinkled)
1.5 tbsp ACV
1/2 yellow onion
3 sprigs rosemerry
3- 1/2 inch slices fresh ginger root
4 whole cloves garlic
Salt to taste
9 cups cold water

Pressure Cooked in Instapot for 3 hrs
Fat skimmed off

So 11 cups of broth… divided into 1 cup servings.
What would i be looking at for macros per 1 cup?

It sounds divine!! As for the macros…I personally don’t track any except for staying well below 20g of carbohydrates. I have learned to listen to what my body needs and am doing extremely well with that! I’m sure someone else will have an answer to your question though!

I’ve had the same problem Heather, it’s one of those “who knows” foods. Account for the carbs you added and don’t worry about the protein and fat or calorie content. Be satisfied that it’s healthy KETO food and just account for the carbs. :cowboy_hat_face:

Me too…
I decided that I will pretend I didn’t have that 1 cup of bone broth, my 80-20 rule  If I added a few pieces of carrot, kohlrabi, onion and celery root, I calculated it, in my head, as 5g of carbs. Once the veggies ran out and my soup was just broth, I didn’t count it was anything.

If you don’t eat the veggies and only drink the broth, why would you count carbs at all. Aren’t you only leaching the nutrients out of the vegetables when making broth?

@VirginiaEdie You also leach the sugars and stuff like onion and garlic will pretty much dissolve except the fiber. If nothing was leaching out why add it? Bone broth doesn’t usually have vegetables or large amounts of meat, that’s a soup. Usually broth would be made from just beef bones or the chicken carcass after removing the meat. If you are going to consider the macros carbs are all you should try to monitor in something like this that’s homemade.
