Body Fat tests

Hrm,

So I was checking with my doctor to see if I could get a Dexa Scan, and they poo poo all over that idea, in that insurance won’t cover it, unless some medical need.

However, looking around the internet I found lots of tests that local universities offer fairly cheap. I was surprised.

Note, none of the tests offered at your link is a dexa scan. But it is possible to find dexa scans outside of medical institutions.

@brownfat

Your right it is possible, but the costs are not reasonable at least to me. I’m not paying 200 - 300 dollars for curiosity sake.

$200-$300 would be through a medical facility. I pay $75 and I know there is a place in California that will do a dexa for $35.

Nice, that is outstanding price. Everything via google showing is over 200 bucks in Virginia, except for this site.

But it’s monthly fee, and a 2 hour drive for me anyway.

I got my first scan at a DEXAFIT for $60 through a groupon offer without any subscription plan. They do those offers often. Another similar place to DEXAFIT is https://liveleanrx.com/

Until I become fitter, I’m resigned to just use the Simpson Body Fat Test

I did one last week at the local university. It was $95 - if I’d been affiliated with the school it would be $80. It was good to see how much fat I still had to go and to get a sense of what is skin and what is subcutaneous fat. I also found that my visceral fat was pretty reasonable which is nice. I had more fat than what I expected - thought I’d be a lower percentage BUT it still helped to do it because now I am even more motivated as I near a reasonable size.

I just checked and it appears the going rate in my area is about $40.

Where I am, it cost me $500 for three scans, and was over an hour’s drive away.

That liveleanrx is closer, but it’s still $150 per scan.
