Blowing off keto tonight

(Mike Glasbrener) #1

Wild fire near home and mandatory evac’d tonight. Will have a mild excess of wine tonight. Couldn’t care right now. Back on the horse after I cope with aftermath… FML

Best of luck…

Stay safe! I got tired of running from California fires and moved out of state. I know that Evac feeling well. Best of luck to you.

Take care. Listening and hoping for a satisfying ending for you in every way.

@Mglasbrener God bless and keep you, Mike! Be careful!

I did the same when Irma came blowing through Central Florida… good luck to you and your neighbors!

Well… we faired very well. Our house neither burned down nor was looted. We were extremely lucky, the weather cooperated and the fire fighters did a great job with fire breaks and back fires so we emerged in scathed. Too many people I know emerged with family members, 1 or two cars and whatever they could grab in the few minutes they had to evacuate. It’s sad beyond measure. I was under mandatory evac for nearly a week with wife, kid, two normally indoor/outdoor cats and an older golden retriever. It was extremely stressful and not entirely keto.

My life has returned to some semblance of normalcy but will never be the same. My son lost most of his high school as fires completely consumed 60% of the classroom space, the library and the administration along with all of the IT infrastructure. He’s a junior and this year is critical for education since SAT and such will be taken and he is still not getting an education nearly 2 weeks later… He is my near term focus.

I wasn’t horrible eating while a refugee. However a moderate amount of wine was consumed post dinner most evenings. I’m now back home and trying to eat better. However, my volume even though it’s keto (high fat) is up. I think it’s stress eating. As such I don’t need more stress so I haven’t stepped on a scale. Maybe this weekend or next Monday… I’m not really worried about getting back on track since I know I will. A couple of other notes. I was fasting on Mon. and Fri. For now that’s on hold and I have thrown a leg over my bike in two weeks. The latter is killing me since I love to ride and was in the process of ramping back up…

I’m glad to know you’re safe; that’s the important part. The rest will sort itself out, even your son’s schooling. Keep calm and keto on the best you can, and don’t worry. God doesn’t care if it’s not absolutely perfect; you’re trying, and that’s what counts.

Hang in there. Troubled times for sure and you will be all the better for it. Trust me. Been there, done that and got the shirt! Best of luck to you and yours.

Thanks all. Back on track and in the groove once again! It’ll take me another week or two to get back to where I was pre-fire but I’ll get there. With stress returning to normal levels my weight is dropping quickly. Stress and sort of high fat low carb (too many macadamia nuts for snacks) eating habits made my hunger levels higher. I was fasting Mon and Fri , about 36 hours each, pre-fire. I fasted last Mon and Friday (yesterday) and skipped breakfast twice this week so I think I’m getting back on track. Now to ramp spin and ride times back up…
