Recently my fingers have turned into condoms filled with blood. Even after turning my skin piercer down from 4.5 to 2, every morning my blood sampling is like an oil well gusher.
Anyone else notice this ?
Blood!
No.
But I think lower blood glucose means thinner blood, i.e. it flows better. This may be a good thing, especially for diabetics. As viscous blood doesn’t flow well in small capillaries and may contribute to neuropathy in the extremities.
The odd thing is, my blood glucose has been stable for over a year, mid to high 5’s mmol/l
This bleeding thing has only been happening for the last 6 weeks ?
The only thing I take is a little Levothyroxine. This I suppose is a bit of a compromise with my doctor who would love me to be taking some form of statin. I’ve declined of course…
May I assume you’re taking Levothyroxine for a hypothyroid condition? Have you had any issues with K1 deficiency (clotting factor) in the past? Any particular combination of vitamin supplements being taken?
Do you, or have you smoked cigarettes for any appreciable period of time? Did you quit?
Is this high blood pressure? Or edema? I am just guessing, not a doctor!
Very high blood pressure?
I’ve never heard of gushing blood like this, except when due to significant trauma.
Perhaps you should take it seriously and have a check up. How long does it take to stop bleeding? Imagine if you suffer an accident and really hurt yourself? Will the bleeding stop?
I only take 50 μg Levothyroxine because a number of years ago my thyroid readings were a little erratic. I’ve been taking the same dose for 4 or 5 years now and my thyroid readings are right where they should be…apparently. No other medication or supplements. Never had, or was never aware of, any K1 deficiency. Haven’t smoked for fifty years and even when I did it was only to be fashionable, honestly, I hated it ! Blood pressure on average 115/80 , so not bad for and old man ?
It doesn’t last long and I staunch it by using a technique my father used to use when he cut himself shaving. A small corner of paper stuck onto the blood till it dries, usually 2 or 3 minutes.
If it doesn’t resolve itself within the next few weeks, or get worse, I’ll probably speak to the doctor.
@Ronald_Weaver Sounds like you’re on top of the more serious potential issues, which leaves you with minimal, non-serious issues, if any.
FWIW, when I did daily finger prick blood tests (KetoMojo) there were days where my blood seemed a lot thinner and clotting wasn’t immediate. There never seemed to be a particular pattern to it - and it was rarely if ever even 2 days in a row - but it did seem weird. Wish I could be more helpful.
If a piece of tissue or toilet paper works, then a styptic pencil would probably work, as well. Though it would sting more, lol!
Sensible fellow on the statin… I’m a bit of a bleeder but not experienced what you have described… take a long time to clot though…
Our local barber used to try and sell me those. But strangely he never referred to them as Styptic Pencils. He always just sort of whispered " And, er, something for the weekend sir ?"
