Blood vs Urine Test

(T) #1

Guys I’ve been testing my urine for a while now and I’ve been at the 8 mmol/l mark and I just bought a blood meter for fun and it’s 0.9 mmol/l. Any logic to this?

I just bought another brand of urine strips thinking that it may be bad strips but even the new ones match the 8mmol/l colour.

Blood is better I think. I drink a crap load of water, always have, so I think my urine strips are an underestimate. I used my friend’s blood test and it was great.

Pee strips are never accurate as the result always depends on your level of hydration.

i show zero on urine strips when my blood is 1.8

its ok at the beginning of a keto diet as you have lots of ketones floating around but after a short while they drop as your body only produces what you need so very little makes it into your urine.

(T) #6

So if the pee strips are way higher than the blood ones am I dehydrated?

(Allie) #7

Very likely, or it could just be that you’re peeing ketones out as your body doesn’t know what to do with them yet or how many to make.

(T) #8

So just always use the blood results? They are always accurate?

(David Brown) #9

yes and yes

(Allie) #10

If you feel the need to test then that’s the best way yes.
