Hey everyone! First time poster. I’ve been on Keto for almost 2 months. I’m post menopause so I’m losing very very slow. About 5 pounds but my clothes definatly are looser so I’m good. I just bought a glucometer to test my sugar to different foods. When I got up today I did a fasting test and it was 63. My meter said low but I don’t think it is in this woe. I also know meters are not 100% accurate. I have to say I was never diagnosed with pre diabetes a d am not diabetic. I’m trying to lose 30 pounds. So is everything good with my sugar? I’m gonna do more testing in the next few days to see the curve. Thanks!
Blood sugar question
Do you have any existing data to compare it to? An HbA1c for example. How do you feel - normal? If you feel fine I don’t think I would be too concerned. It would be nice to have something to compare it to though - get more context.
I agree with Daisy. You need context. Numbers can vary considerably from day to day with the same person using the same meter.
Each person has a different limit. The general rule is to stay above 70 but some low carbers can be on 60’s or high 50’s without issues.
It’s more concerning for diabetic people that take medications/insulin to drop the blood sugar levels but you can keep an eye for symptoms or hypoglycemia:

The last time I had my A1c checked which was may of 2016 it was 5.8 and glucose was 92 but the doctor didnt mention anything to me. Im getting blood work next week. This test was long before I started Keto. In the mornings I usually have been fasting since noon before. I eat lunch and dont eat until the next morning. I have a very hard time sleeping lately even though I take Calm, drink tea and take a klonipin. I wake many times during the night to go to the bathroom so in the a.m. I feel very dehydrated. Does this sound like hypoglycemia? Thanks.
5.8 is already becoming diabetic. The "pre-diabetic"range is above 5.7.
As far as hypoglycemic? If you have none of the symptoms, relax. You’re fine.
63? Upon waking? You’re going to cure your diabetes as fast as lightening. Rejoice! 63 is amazing, and on low carb, not unusual.
ROCK ON
I personally refer to anyone with an elevated A1c as diabetic. They are all headed to full blown diabetes. Why sugar coat it? Lol

Your symptoms of going to the bathroom overnight and feeling dehydrated (symptom of diabetes by the way) are more likely to make your fasting sugars higher than lower. Whenever I am dehydrated overnight I have higher fasting.
I have reactive hypoglycemia sometimes (low sugars after eating) and also when I do a lot of exercise and generally have low blood sugars these days. The only symptom of hypoglycemia I get is cold hands and feet when it is in the 3’s (70’s and under).
I think from memory Hba1c above 5.4 is considered prediabetic (from the dudes curing diabetes YouTube talk). I would have your fasting Insulin levels done. It may be that you are slightly Insulin resistant (hyperinsulimemia) and it is bringing your levels down lower.
