I’m new to this lifestyle…im about 2 weeks in and really trying to keep my carbs down to the 20g mark. I dont have a ketone meter bit I do have a blood sugar meter. I’ve been checking it when I wake up in the morning and it’s 98 today…yesterday it was 88…is this normal for being keto?
Blood Sugar normal?
That is within the healthy range. At two weeks, depending on how strict you have been with your ratios, and your particular metabolism, you may or may not be in ketosis. But blood sugars don’t reveal much about that.
Are you diabetic? Did you test your blood sugars before you started keto?
I often have morning blood sugars that are over 100, then go down all day. It’s called physiological insulin resistance. I doubt you’re at that point, though.
Also, if you’re taking your blood sugar using pin pricks, those things are notoriously “inaccurate”, meaning you could take them three times in a row and get three different results. A 100% accurate meter is allowed to be within 15% of the real value. (Now, your meter may actually be more accurate than 15%, but that’s the actual goal.)
