Blood sugar help

(Mandy) #1

Hi all,

I’ve never had blood sugar issues that I know of. When tested 2 years ago after fasting for a physical it was 86. I’ve started testing in the morning as I wish to stay without blood sugar issues. I also just had my a1c tested. It was 4.5. From reading this is a good number. When I wake and test, my reading has been a fairly consistent 92. My question is, is that not close to where it should be under in the morning, less than 100? Can one have a normal a1c and a high blood sugar reading? What would that mean? All of this is just curiosity as I’m already doing keto so any BG issues should be in check.

Thanks for reading.

the A1c is an average of blood sugars over the past three months or so (depends on the life of your red blood cells). So yes, it’s possible to have some high readings along the way. If you’re not diabetic your pancreas releases the right amount of insulin to handle the load and your readings return to a lower range.

There’s also the Dawn Phenomenom. Google that and you’ll see that blood sugars are typically higher in the morning.

Thanks for this. I am noticing my BG bouncing around a bit. The Dawn Phenomenon is actually pretty interesting, thanks for sharing!
