Hi brain trust ! I love the keto woe, I have had fat loss from everywhere except the lower spare tyre , in fact I have to stop actually losing and go to a maintenance mode , my only concern is I’m showing glucose reading of usually 6 . 3 - 7 and sometimes over 7 , I’m not diabetic nor was I pre diabetic, anyone know why this would happen?
I’m 63 , 173 cm , and weigh 65 kg , Should I start to get more exercise to try and lower the levels and the spare tyre , any thoughts and suggestions welcome
Blood sugar going up
How long have you been eating a ketogenic diet, and what is your HbA1C? It often happens that as the muscles adapt to metabolizing fatty acids in place of glucose, that they down-regulate their insulin receptors, so as to spare the glucose the liver is producing for those cells (such as the red blood corspuscles) that cannot do without it. If your serum glucose has risen, but your HbA1C is still low, that is a sign of this happening (the phenomenon is variously called “physiological insulin-resistance” or “adaptative glucose-sparing”).

Have you checked your meter against lab results? My NovaMax reads 20 mg/dl high (about 1.1 in European units) for glucose so I only use it for ketones.
I have only been doing keto for about 3 months, but didn’t want to go to my doctor for tests yet as I had one just before starting, she said everything was good except my cholesterol which I refuse to take statins for lol (ongoing battle with her as I hate them ) and I’m guessing they have probably gone up , will wait a couple of months, thanks for the article makes perfect sense very helpful
Yeah, best to wait till the six-month mark, because things will usually have stabilized by then. Less shock to the poor doctor!
