Im confused here, I fast roughly just under 24hrs. I am a t2d and being doing keto consistently for about 6 months until me and my wife had our second child and i was off the diet for a bit. Now that im back on track. My fasting glucose throughout the day is from 8-9 or around 160 for the conversion. I take it its my liver pumping glucose into my system from the fasting. Now where im confused is that when i get home from work and have dinner, I check my level and it drops down to 5.2- 4.7 after about an hour to 2hrs. I have a free style libre so i check often. My thoughts that my body is getting insulin sensitive. I am still worried about the high blood sugar during the fast but i can only contribute that to my liver causing this. Any thoughts on this can help. Thank you
Blood sugar drop after eating
Reactive hypoglycemia, is my guess. I get the same thing, primarily when I eat carbs. I can send you screenshots of what it looks like if I demolish chocolate or tortilla chips… total anarchy with my BG, sky high followed by a massive crash.
My guess: insulin goes up and there’s not a corresponding change in its counter-hormone (glucagon), leading to hypoglycemia.
What kind of protein are you eating?
You could test by eating more fat, less protein, same carbs and see what happens. (NOTE: Jimmy Moore gets hypoglycemia for both high protein and high fat, but hopefully you’re not like him.)
Thanks, typically its a chicken quarter or fish, sausage 2-3 links. I do have cheese and salami to break my fast. Maybe i am having too much protein but still racking my brain on why the blood sugar would drop. I am taking metphormin 2 in the morning with apple cider. And then two right after my meal. Maybe that’s why. Id that’s the case why would it not lower my blood sugar in the morning then???
Mornings are tough. My blood sugar rises all morning until about noon, then goes down all day until about midnight.
Do you also take apple cider vinegar at night? I tested this on an empty stomach multiple times and got about a 10 point (US units) drop in blood sugar.
I don’t think you’re having “too much” protein. That might just be what causes this.
I dont always but i see the drop after I eat about 1-2hrs after. Gabe was thinking its reactive hypo seems likely but just trying to figure what and why its happening. Don’t get me wrong I am happy my blood sugar is dropping after I eat, but is this what should be happening. I have herd that while fasting your liver dumps sugar into the blood to compensate for the lack of food, and fat stores release their glucose in the fasted state. Then when I eat my body says hey liver stop pumping sugar in the blood and then my cells accept the glucose coming in and sends down my blood sugar. My thoughts but i am unclear
