Don’t really know if this is where i should ask this. Anyways i’m new at the whole checking blood ketone levels. And i just got a meter today to check. But should i clean the lancet for first time use? Sorry if this question is odd but am quite curious to know if i can contract anything from them.

I usually go with the theory that if it is just me checking, I don’t worry about changing every time - though I do change it occasionally. But if it was a pre-used lancet then it’s probably worth using a new one or sterilising the old one somehow. Anything that pierces the skin has the potential to introduce pathogens into the system.

I re-use a lancet for a few weeks at a time (I test 3-5 times a week).
I clean the end with the alcohol pad I use to clean off the tip of my finger, I figure it doesn’t hurt to clean it off first.

FYI, there are disposable, one use lancets on the market. The ones I use cost a couple of bucks for a pack of 100 at Walmart.
