Blood ketone and glucose readings from one blood test

ketones

Hello everyone,

I found an interesting new device that is helping me with weight loss. Im pre-diabetic and using keto-dieting as a means for weight loss and reducing my risk of developing diabetes. I have lost almost 12kg gradually with low carbing over the last 12 months and so very happy that it is working.

I regularly monitor my blood sugars in addition to ketones as a way of checking how to adjust food and exercise. My ketones were around 0.9-1.4mM while glucose (before eating) is around 5.5-6.5mM and in the past I have used two different meters to get this information which required a separate test and having to pierce my finger twice. This can become literally a pain when done 3-4 times a day each for glucose and then 3-4 times for ketone (ouch!). However, I found a new meter called keya smart which reads both glucose and ketone at the same time which has really helped save my poor fingers! Its also useful in having paired readings for ketones and glucose when looking at the results over a few days.

I can then use the trends and averages feature over the day or week or even month which is really insightful in tracking my ketosis and blood sugar. My keto friends are also using this now and its throwing back some interesting trends with certain foods and exercise types. Using this I have managed to push my ketosis to 1.5-1.9mM (my personal best) in the last two weeks. The cost of the test strips is less than the expensive freestyle ketone foil strips I was previously using so its better value overall especially as you get glucose as well. Also my fingers are in better shape at long last!

Hi there, Im in the Uk and paid UK£31.50 for 50 strips (thats 50 ketone and 50 glucose tests) from their website (keyasmart.com).

In the UK its way lower for these combined test strips compared to the freestyle ketone only strips which come in at around UK£28 for only 10 ketone strips. So for me, its a straight forward cost saving compared to what I was paying before. Best wishes.

I just looked at their website and it looks like a great product. How is the accuracy?

Its made for folk that have diabetes so needs to be accurate enough for medical use. When I first purchased the meter I compared the ketone results to my freestyle ketone strips and got exactly the same results. I did the same with my existing glucose meter and it read the same as the keya so i think the accuracy must be as good as whats out there for both ketones and glucose.

That’s superb pricing compared to the rip-off prices in the UK! Im moving down under!

Im definetly moving to Oz, an abundance of ketone strips (and watering holes!..heaven).

For now I just topped 2.0mM ketone on the keya for the very first time (so deserve a beer or five at the weekend). Blood glucose 4.8mM.
