Blood glucose monitor faulty?

(Megan) #1

Hey folks, I just bought a CareSens Dual so I could monitor my blood glucose levels. I tested my blood glucose on waking a few days ago and it came back as 6.2 (about 112 mg/dL). I thought “hmm, that can’t be right?” So I immediately re-tested - 5.4 (about 96 mg/dL). I immediately re-tested again and got 6.3. Then once more and got 5.7.

Is it normal for units to be so inconsistent/inaccurate or is the unit faulty?

Sorry - I deleted my most above as my information related to US-based meters, and I’m inferring from your units of measurement that you’re not. So, I didn’t want to lead you astray due to regional differences between meters and regulations.

In the US, 100% accurate means the meter is within 15% of the actual value for every sample. So, something like what you’re getting is not unusual.

These are better for trends rather than exact numbers.

Can be, best practice is to squeeze 4-5 drops out of that finger a head of time, wipe, THEN use the next one for testing. There’s always a decent margin of error with them. Unless that continuously happens, I wouldn’t worry about it. Does seem a little jumpy either way, but unless it keeps happening, you’re probably good.

Those look like my US numbers Brian. Here’s the chart I use:
