Hi guys. It’s me…the full of questions newbie!!!
I have a dilemma. I hate and I mean HATE the aftertaste of artificial sweeteners. Can someone recommend a Keto friendly sweetener with the least aftertaste?
Bitter Sweeteners
I think it may be a question of YMMV, I find most artificial sweeteners horrible but I like stevia (in extremely small quantities otherwise it’s bitter too). My husband thinks stevia is disgustingly sweet and prefers erythritol. (which to me isn’t bitter but it does have this weird … IDK, metallic taste?)
I’ll also toss out the YMMV … but I like erythritol. I haven’t really noticed an aftertaste … but I just use it in my fat bombs. Its slightly less sweet than sugar but thats easy to adjust for.
Another vote for erythritol. I use swerve in my fat bombs and a little in my coffee. No weird after taste but… It does have a cooling effect.
Yes, that’s what I mean. not so much metallic, but this odd sensation of coolness in my mouth.
I think Splenda tastes the most like real sugar. I used to dislike stevia when I had only tried the powdered kind. But then I discovered liquid stevia glycerite and it was a game changer. It is about $25 a bottle but my bottle has lasted over a year so far. The other liquid stevias (with a bit of alcohol in them vs. the glycerite) have a teensy aftertaste. They come in little bottles. I like the Now brand butter toffee flavor very much. I mix it with melted bacon fat and a tbsp. of ACV to put on my spinach salad. I also have chocolate flavored. That is good in lots of things. Erythritol and xylitol taste pretty good and I use them in desserts sometimes. I do have Russell Stover SF candies but have to limit them because they are sweetened with maltitol which will give you GI issues if you eat too much. Also, maltitol is more absorbable than other sugar alcohols and can impact blood glucose for some people.
yes, what gypsyrn said, I use concentrated liquid stevia with the alcohol, maybe 2-3 drops in a cup of coffee. Don’t like the powders. I haven’t tried the glycerite version - but I will!
I have researched sweeteners and taste-tested about all of them… I’m very sensitive to any aftertaste and my go to is Erythritol. NO aftertaste, no impact on insulin/blood sugars (you can even try it plain… very similar taste to the “real thing” ) good luck!
The only sweeteners my supertaster wife will tolerate (and we’ve tried them all) are allulose and Lakanto monk fruti/erythritol blend.
