In northern climates we have to use feed during the winter or the animals would die. That said there are many farms where I am that provide grass exclusively in the summer months, grow hay and grains for winter feed. They are small operations and provide food for local restaurants, Farmers Markets and local butchers.
Perhaps large corporations need to revisit this style of raising animals for food.
