Big meal and ketones

(Cara Murray) #1

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to share data of my own. Yesterday I decided to do OMAD. Ketogenic macros, but a lot of food. My ketones pre meal 1.9 glucose 88 1 hour post .2 glucose 118. This morning 12 hours later glucose 88 ketones still at .2. I am relating this to the insulin response of a big meal. The 2 weeks before I experimented with omad I was doing 2 meals a day, sort of modified carnivore(a little spinach with each meal, and 1/2 avocado with 1) and my ketones never dropped below .8, average was 1.0 but my glucose stayed steady at the high 90s up to 106 one morning! I thought someone might find this interesting!!

Another thing about eating just one big meal…

You’re getting a significant amount of protein all at once. It’s likely that a good portion of it is being converted to glycogen causing that drop in ketone levels that you noticed.

Yes! While omad works for some, I do not feel it’s best for me;)

Hey Cara! I had the same results with OMAD. I ate a big meal, got sleepy, my blood sugar went up and ketones went down. All of the food was Keto, just like my daily intake all at once. Yes I guess it’s not for everyone. Now I do either two or three meals, or just fasting.

Yes I don that works best for me as well!! So important to find what works for YOU isn’t it:) have a great night!

On the other hand, if you eat only one meal a day, that means that for most of the day your insulin level is as low as possible, as opposed to raising it several times a day by eating more meals.
