Hi! In one of the podcasts Richard mentioned a blood glucose reading that is linked to beta cell destruction. Does anyone know the number and possibly the episode number? Thanks!

If memory serves, as your HbA1c climbs higher than 5.5, more beta cells die than can be made.

But so far as I am aware there is no way of measuring beta cells while we are alive so I would refrain for saying anything is certain except that in a Type 1 diabetic they are mostly dead.
A lot of current research implies that visceral fat around the pancreas and liver impairs the function of beta cells but no-one has “proved” that they die off in this scenario.
