Best carnivore snack?

(Chris Kornelsen) #1

I often love some garlic sausage and cheese. Since the sausage is heavily.processed and filled with crap I wondering the best sausage or snack that can fill my snack needs? (I only snack 2 nights a week)

#2

I like peppered beef jerky but the non-processed stuff can get expensive.

Hard boiled eggs.
Nick’s Sticks meat sticks (the jerky has added nonsense).
Brooklyn Biltong, and a few other brands of biltong.
Keto Carne and People’s Choice beef jerky.
Some Epic meat bars are okay (venison and Sriracha chicken do not have added sugar, just spices).
Cheese, cheese crisps (parm crisps, not the British version of American chips).

Pepperoni
Not too expensive
Eat cold or a quick cook in the microwave
Inexpensive :slightly_smiling_face:

Or go one for one of these
Sigh

I hear you on snacking but I have to say I rarely do it anymore, if I feel snacky I just eat a big old hunk of meat. But even tho it is processed I would just enjoy your sausage because it is only a few nights a week you might eat it…enjoy it and don’t worry. It is good we can keep a few things in our menu we love to eat.

Liver pate and pork Rinds

Most of these have added sugar and/or fruit unfortunately.

The Stryve biltong has sugar in it, but their biltong sticks do not. However, there is so much of a particular spice in them that I found them to be quite nasty.

I know you people are carnivores, but this is really not true. I can find very “clean” (still has herbs/spices, no sugar or other junk though) sausages at my local store. And it’s no more “highly processed” than ground meat.

I’ve made this multiple times:

You cut the meat and fat back into cubes, add the spices, grind. There’s nothing “highly processed” about it.

You would make this carnivore just by using the pork butt and fat back and salt, and it might not be too bad.

You could make your own jerky or mookies (meat cookies, i.e. jerky made with mincemeat). That way you get to control the quality of the ingredients. They’re very easy to make - there are a zillion paleo/keto jerky recipes out there on the interwebz. You could even use an oven if you don’t own or can’t borrow a dehydrator.

I qualify processed as the dextrose abs sugar even my local butcherrputs in his sausages

#11

agree with ctv in that there is fab processed foods vs. the crappy ones

we all know how to read labels, research products, ask the local artisan butcher making fresh meat products.

just be smart out there!

I feel like I annoy my butcher with all my questions and asks haha

(Katie) #13

He/She proably appreciates that a customer is asking questions, I bet not many people do.

I instantly made friends with my meat counter guy at my most shopped at grocery store  He keeps me well connected LOL
Hey, who ya know right?

This might seem odd but when I’m keto I almost crave pork rinds and especially cracklins but not on carnivore. It’s my third go round on carnivore and I think it’s happened every time. I have bags of them just sitting around now.

#16

I’ve taken to liking pemmican but haven’t gotten up the nerve to try making it myself.

Not with pork rinds but with amts. of meat I have in the fridge. I do Carnivore and I have to be very careful on how much meat I do defrost from the freezer.

There are times I defrost 2 steaks and I only eat 1 and the other sits and waits and then I might have defrosted a chuck roast for cooking and maybe some chicken thighs for just in case cooking and next thing ya know I could be faced with throwing out meat. I am very careful on how much meat I have in the fridge cause if a ‘not hungry’ day hits, I just can’t eat a steak but if that sucker is on the fence and has to be cooked, oh yea I eat it LOL I am not a fan of reheating certain meats and beef is one of them except hamburger.

Not a fan of reheating chicken either so I can get nailed with too much meat in the fridge waiting to eat and I just don’t want or need it. More careful now on how I handle my meat defrosting

We are so well fed on carnivore that extra food isn’t required…well it works that way for me.
