Being KETO as a FIFO worker what’s you tips?

(JT ) #1

Folks one is new to keto about 4-5weeks I lost nearly 10kgs. I’m looking for your tips for those that are FIFO workers as I’m one.!
Thanks in advance.

Usually definitely more challenging, Justin. Biggest thing is the selection of food at the worksite, no? Hauling in food with you seems like a lot of effort and perhaps impossible to me…

#3

Do you have meals made for you? My dad works up north at a uranium mine and their camp has lots of food to choose from - actually would be easy for him to keto. What’s your situation like?

(JT ) #4

Yeap that’s Kristi we are feed in the mess, it’s not too bad, in all reality… but we are rather remote so limited with luggage on the flights & the shop here.

(JT ) #5

Mate it can be rather challenging sure.

Hopefully you can find some more support with more Fifo experienced people. Some ideas I would think of would be to throw some beef jerky or dry non-refrigerated sausage in your bag. Maybe some macadamia nuts.
I am guessing breakfast would be one of the easiest Keto meals. Maybe fast until supper?

My dad managed to lose a lot of weight while working (buy new clothes and new belts) just by making healthier choices and moderation (seriously only person I ever met whose done this). So I bet you’ll be successful too!

FIFO isn’t in the acronym list.

What does it mean?

Ta.

“Fly In / Fly Out.”

Pilots?

Anyone in a hurry?

Dimwit in south London doesn’t understand …

When the work site is isolated, like offshore oil platforms, or mines deep in the wilderness, it’s common for workers to be transported in for a period of work, then back home again. This cycle continues…

Ah.

Thank you.

Ahh… FIFO in retail means first in, first out. Meaning code dates for food spoilage.

And in work settings where there’s layoffs, it’s FILO, first in, last out. Meaning seniority keeps you employed. I’ve also heard it as LIFO for last in, first out, which means the same.

I was trying to figure out how that would apply to this discussion.

Mine site / oil rig working on a Fly In / Fly Out. In remote areas your limited on luggage wieght therefore one can’t take to much to work.

I’m not FIFO, but I was in the Navy, and I have been to plenty of plants/rigs/man camps in remote locations for field engineering work. So I understand your pain.

Many of these places keep sweets & deserts out and readily available, but lock up the meat, oil, butter etc. between meals

Depending on the site, they may or may not be sympathetic to people with special dietary.

Are you at the same site regularly? It might be possible to talk the head cook or supply steward (whoever orders makes the food) to tweak their meal plan for you. Maybe even show them the science and turn a drilling rig keto…

You could make sure you bring your salt/magnesium/potassium supliments and be ready to fast any time the only thing for breakfast is oatmeal and pancakes…

So, someone brought up the more common meaning of the term FIFO relating to inventory accounting, as in the “First In, First Out.” method. Managers and Dieters all need to understand these three accounting methods.

There is FIFO, but there is also LIFO, as in “Last In, First Out.” LIFO seems much more useful in real life, since it relates to when you will get laid off, and also where you are going to loose your body fat from.

For Dieters, FIFO really does not apply, and has instead been replaced by FISH.

First In, Still Here. (Sounds a lot like those Krispy Kreme Donuts we hear talked about…)

Mate I was refurring to be a fly in fly out worker = FIFO nothing todo with retail/accounting etc.!

Thanks Foard150, I concur with what you said, yes on on the same site have been here 6yrs.
But if it’s not the kitchen budget they don’t want to know about you.
Even the guys that are GF or celleiac have issues trying to eat.
I’ve been eat GF for most of my time here and it’s a challenge.
Thanks mate

Because keto food is generally more nutritionally dense you could maybe show them coat saving…

Say that and make a spreadsheet and few power point slides to sell it. There may already be YouTube videos or other material on this.

If you have the stomach or gift for business BS buzzwords (I struggle with this), you could even spin it as a Six Sigma/Lean/Green Belt project.

(LeeAnn Brooks) #20

Yes, I understand now. I was just explaining my initial confusion.
