I have been having a hard time with headaches lately. I am fairly positive they are electrolyte related, although I have no other noticeable symptoms of imbalance. Often, they come on after I finish off a bottle of water–ibuprofen does nothing for them. I had some Ultima Replenish electrolyte powder on hand, and realized the headaches went away after drinking one of those. That’s been a pretty consistent pattern.
Is a good quality salt enough to keep the electrolytes at solid levels? I definitely don’t restrict salt and have noticed I am way oversalting my recipes based on taste (too much for even my salt loving husband!) I am drinking a diet Powerade now out of desperation until I can get more electrolyte powder, but I want to do what I can without Powerade, at least.
Is there a better way to supplement? I tried some trace mineral liquid and that doesn’t seem to help. I don’t know if it’s just less than what the sports drink type has, or if that form just takes a while to build up in your system?
Is flooding my system with water actually throwing the balance off? Is it really that direct/fast a response?
Can electrolyte imbalance cause a stall or plateau? I guess anything could, if the body is in panic mode about any particular thing.
