I’ve been Keto since May (6 months) and have off and on had this persistent bad taste in my mouth, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what it’s related to. It comes and goes seemingly at random, and does not seem to be related to bad breath (though it could be another form of “ketobreath” I guess). I try to figure out patterns of it maybe being related to eating too many carbs and kicking myself out of ketosis, but I don’t think I am (no other symptoms and blood glucose levels are always around 80 when I have the bad taste). Could I be kicking myself out of ketosis not by eating too many carbs but by not eating enough fat?
Could it be too low of blood sugar? The only pattern I can think of is that usually my blood ketone levels are low (around .7) when it happens so maybe it has something to do with my body not using the ketones properly, but then wouldn’t I have higher ketones in my blood? Or urine? Urine strips are not picking up anything.
Anybody else have this experience? Maybe it has something to do with a missing nutrient or mineral for processing ketones? Or maybe I really am moving out of ketosis slightly and I just don’t realize it.
Anyway, to clarify: bad taste in mouth, low blood ketones (.7), low/good glucose (80), no ketones in urine stips.
Thanks for ideas/feedback!
