Bad reaction to Soy Sauce
I have been following Keto for close to a month now. Last night I made a keto recipe I have been making almost every other night. Last night I found same recipe calling for 3 tablespoons of Soy Sauce. Not long after I finished eating I felt really sick. Nauseous, bloated and really hot. The only thing different in the way I have been eating was the soy sauce. I was wondering if anyone else had ever had any problems with soy sauce?
I’ve stayed away from soy sauce since going Keto. I’ve been sparingly using this instead:
My pantry is full of olive oils, cocunut oils, avocado oils…
My husband says it’s the only grocery shopping i do.
I just can’t get past how awful I felt last night.
No… I have always had a tendency to overeat when earing foods I would put soy sauce on. So bloated yes.
But last night I ate half a chicken thigh which had the sauce with soy sauce on it and I felt awful. My face even got bright red and really hot. And just sick… The rest of the family felt fine.
This morning I felt like I was hung over. I drank a lot of water with salt and started feeling normal around 10am.
It didn’t drop my ketosis level. So I didn’t know if it was the soy sauce or if I caught a bug.
It was just odd because it felt like and allergic reaction to something.
Try tamari instead, soy sauce has wheat in it😵 That may be what you reacted to. I also love coconut aminos as suggested above.

Do you have it with bacon as well?
I find that soy sauce and bacon also send my gluco numbers through the roof.
You said that you didn’t get this feeling before Keto, same here. I think that this might be, because our bodies on Keto become so fine tuned into what is more benificial for our body. This is just what I feel because I haven’t felt this good in 20 years
No bacon. Same recipe I have been using just small tweak with soy sauce.
I was wondering if it was my body telling me it doesn’t mix well with soy sauce.
I agree I am currently sitting here on the couch after a walk trying to un bloat. Yesterday I ate two itilian sausages and started having a headache then feeling sick like the flue was coming on left work and drinking water trying to flush what I think was a MSG reaction. Just for fun I weighed myself and noticed I gained 12 lbs from my morning weigh in. Feeling a lot better this morning down about 9 lbs. I agree that our bodies become more sensitive to the things we used to eat all the time and after being Keto for a while for me any sodium product besides sea salt really hits me and knocks me down.
My wife is allergic to soy. But she tolerates the Braggs Liquid Aminos quite well. We haven’t really figured out exactly why, just sharing.
