I bought 3 bags of Swerve from Amazon. After eating anything with Swerve I get this bad aftertaste and then anything I eat or drink tastes sweet. Has anyone else experienced this? Will this go away once I get used to using Swerve? I’m just not sure if I should give the Swerve away or keep using it.
Bad aftertaste with Swerve
Try using a mix of sweeteners instead of a single kind, they tend to help each other out as far as the off-tastes. Swerve - monk fruit - sucralose - stevia - even saccharin (Sweet & Low). I think Sukrin and Lakanto are good choices.
Also you might try using less Swerve than it calls for.
I also find the Swerve to have a bad aftertaste but I also think Stevia does too! I try to avoid any sweeteners at all if possible. I did make some Lemon Cheesecake Fat Bombs today but only used 2 teaspoons in a double recipe – the final flavor isn’t too bad. I’m just hoping they don’t make my sugars go up too much as I tend to be overly sensitive to carbs.
I have some stevia in the raw at home, so I will try mixing that with the Swerve. Thank you.
Stevia in the Raw is mainly Dextrose. I found that out last week.
I actually add a little bit of Lemon Infused Sea Salt in my water. a little bit of getting used to but works with erythritol/stevia blends.
It is not optimal for everyone, being it a sugar. (glucose)
The best way to answer that is to science yourself taking it. You may have no issue with it in small quantities.
Myself, I chose to eschew it in favor for piece of mind. I may later science myself with it to validate but I’m only 8 weeks in so I have a ton of cooler (my opinion) sciences to perform on my own deranged metabolism. =)
Most of use try to avoid the “ose” items. You will have to monitor to see how you react to it.
I personally do fine with stevia liquid, but can’t stand the taste of powdered stevia unless there are lots of spices to hide its flavor in the few baked items I use the powdered for, YMMV.
I bought Confectioners Swerve because everyone online was saying that it had no aftertaste. That it was the closest thing to sugar. This has the worst aftertaste. I tasted first a bit on my tongue when it arrived a couple of weeks ago and the disgusting aftertaste lasted for hours. I finally got up the nerve to try it in a recipe that I figured had so much flavor (chocolate icecream that it would be fine) I had already used Xylitol, and I decided to added Swerve figuring the xylitol would balance it. NO it did not. I then added in two other sweeteners and the Swerve aftertaste is still apparent. I then added peppermint oil and I can still taste the Swerve. It has ruined this entire double recipe of icecream. I am very bummed as it has a lot of expensive ingredients. I am going to return mine because I can. I bought 2 bags. If only I had realized that I could return it before I decided to ruin this recipe because I thought I was stuck with $14.00 of crappy sweetener.
Sucralose, saccharin (Sweet and Low) are poison why bother trying to get healthy and choose to consume poison that can make you very sick causing you bad headaches, muscle pains, severe cramps and the likes of fibermyalgia pain? Please don’t recommend these to people.
Although these are possibilities for some people, I don’t think it can be used as a blanket statement. If you have some studies to share that back up the issues cited, I am sure they would be found helpful. There are a few threads on the forum already about sweeteners and their pros and cons - for example…
