I’d say bacon, of all my years, was the best thing ever. So what happened? It tastes so salty!
I’m trusting my taste buds and have cut right back on salt in everything.
It’s not just the one supplier either. Is it possible I’ve had enough salty things and I’ve recieved instruction to cut back?
Oh and sorry I’ve been absent. You guys did an amazing job so I feel confident … until the bacon thing lol
Bacon No longer Tastes Good! Whatever Happened?
You might be going through a period where your body just needs something different, or a little less salt for that time.
Shockingly bacon is sometimes not enjoyable to me either! And lately it really seems more of just a serving of fat with very minuscule amounts of protein not even worth counting. But there are days when it tastes heavenly again. I am noticing a difference in quality across the board. It might be that only certain brands/cattle are offering the really tasty kind our minds remember but since most brands aren’t we aren’t enjoying it as much anymore.
Yes, if your tongue isn’t enjoying that salty taste then that’s a key signal you’ve already got enough salt in your system.
Your very own n=1 test lab tucked away in your mouth is clearly functional.
Being absent due to success and on cruise control is the best excuse, ever!!!
Good for you.
But boo to bacon news.
Yes, I think I probably was. I got my first order of Redmonds (Berry’s favourite) and I guess I need to make adjustments.
Hope to get bacon back on the menu soon lol
Bacon “always” was insanely salty to me (well I almost never ate it in my first 3.5 decades now that I think about it :D)… I eat about 5g salt a day (when I manage to guess it, I don’t often do but it’s pretty much always around that when I do) so not overly much and can handle salty things less and less. I still need salt very much but the overly salty things are troublesome. Not so bad, I just need way more eggs than the salty stuff and I can eat it.
So you have changed I suppose. Or eat much sodium already. Or the bacon got saltier.
I wonder if Paul is checking through the forum rules to see if its possible to ban someone for dissing bacon!!!
I go in and out of bacon being a commonly eaten food. But you are doing the right thing: trust your taste buds.
I have never pushed salt. I generally salt all my dinner foods, but only to taste. I use sea salt too, which takes less to give that salty taste. I also use Herbamare seasoned salt on most of my vegetables. Between these two my foods are plenty tasty. I have in the past eaten lots of processed foods at a time, and often noticed that although they started out tasting great, as I continued, all the salt was less and less appealing until at times I said “I’m not enjoying these anymore…” I don’t eat a lot of bacon, but have never experienced your exact problem. I always enjoy my uncured bacon.
Paul is right to ban those hating on bacon … in my case its just a misunderstanding not a divorce.
I’d always plumped for sea salt but switched after concerns about micro plastics. I’ve got no idea how well foiunded that might be.
I’m glad to hear you are hoping to reconcile with bacon. Love conquers all.
Yes. Obviously you are at the point where your body doesn’t want salt. It happens.
A couple of recent studies showed that the healthiest sodium intake is 4-6 g/day. That translates to 10-15 g/day of sodium chloride (table salt) from all sources. The risk curve when sodium intake drops below that range rises quite steeply; above that range, it rises more slowly (what is called a J-shaped curve), but it does rise. For salt-sensitive hypertensives, the healthy range is the same, but the risk rises steeply on both sides of the sweet spot (a U-shaped curve).
My personal experience is that I need enough salt to prevent constipation and migraines, but not so much as to cause diarrhoea. There was one period last year when I really overdid the salt, and any salt in food tasted really horrible. I took the hint and cut way back for a while, then I started wanting salt again. Also, so far as bacon is concerned, I still love it and eat it from time to time, but not nearly as frequently as when I was first beginning a keto diet.
Listen to your body, and all will be well.
Ayup! The four food groups: fat, protein, bacon, and coffee!
