I have been following the keto diet for 3 months now and had been using urine strips to monitor my ketones. I know that as your body becomes more fat adapted it wastes less ketones and the strips are no longer accurate. However, after getting a negative reading I felt so depressed that I decided I was no longer going to stick to my keto diet. I ordered a large Belgian beer with my dinner, had bubble tea with sugar the next day with my kids, had some wantons and split a gelato. Nothing too crazy but enough that I went way over my carbs and consumed real sugar. After those 2 days of going off the rails, I gained 2 pounds and woke up feeling sluggish and crappy. I’m determined to get back into ketosis. Did I do too much damage? Will I have to start back at square one?
Thanks for any advice!

Okay, a good portion of us got where we were weight-wise not just because of what we were eating, but due to eating disorders. Knowing that your body corrects ketone waste output as you go along and then using the ketone strip reading to quit and eat things you know aren’t good for you sounds like you potentially might have a deeper issue there to explore. That being said, no, just get back on the Keto wagon. Your body now knows how to make and use ketones and it will simply start again. The two pounds are most likely inflammation and will correct as you eat healthy again. Consider talking with someone about self-sabotage and keep calm and Keto on.
