Back From The Doctor and

Not if I marry it first!!

But you’re right - the more I get into it, the more creative I get and the more diversity of flavors I explore. I’ve even expanded my palate to appreciate tea more and various seafoods. I guess, like I was saying, was that I was trying to meet him half-way, rather than shut him down and just be like, 'Nu-UH!!! keto is awesomely the bestest tastiest ever!!!" lol I did eat very plainly and boringly the first few months, if for no other reason than to more easily track my macros. But I’m getting creative now, boy! I haven’t even felt the need to cheat in about 9 days. I usually cheat every week! I guess one thing that helps is that I can have diet sodas with no issue, as well as those Atkins treats, so I can basically have sweet stuff whenever without ruining my keto.

Thank you!

Good for you for quitting the discussion. There is absolutely no point in trying to influence someone with a closed mind.

(James Helm) #24

I may be wrong, but I believe there is documentation stating this style of eating can be dated back to the 1860s. It was then popularized and called banting. In the 1920s it was used as medical procedure for epilopsy. This is one hell of a fas diet that has existed more than 150 years. What does that make the low fat diet from just the last 50-60 years?

(Barbara ) #25

WOW! Thank so much because my cholesterol was higher after 4 months on keto and even though people say it will drop, I’ve been worried.

I wish my cardiologist was as up to date as your doc. He just looked at my LDL and said I needed another cholesterol medication in addition to the Lipitor I have taken for 20+ years. I not only did not get the new prescription, I quit the Lipitor. No telling what my LDL is now!!
I wish I could find a doc in Northwest Louisiana, Southwestern Arkansas that is keto knowledgeable.
Great news for you.

Yeah, it’s sad how much conflicting info there is that medical pros have to sift through and side with. I had a conversation with one of my CRNAs the other day who said the whole ketosis/ketogenic diet is complete bullshit. I mean, when even brilliant medical minds can’t agree, what chance do their patients have?

Well, to argue the other side of it, there is a reason so many in the research circles like Dom D’Agostino call what we do “modified Atkins”. I personally don’t say that when people ask me what I’m doing, but the Keto we do is more or less Atkins Induction, which is pretty much what most people who “did Atkins” did. Once people starting moving up the Atkins phases it usually backfired for most, keeping the majority on Induction. Some people make the argument that Atkins is “high protein” as somebody that’s read that book cover to cover probably a dozen times, not sure where that comes from. Some people that do our version (mainstream) keto do a very low protein version maybe that’s where it comes from. Keep in mind I’m referring to the actual Atkins diet, from Dr. A, not the crap that’s out now.

That’s true, but we’re not doing that that Keto, at least I’d bet most aren’t. What we do is much closer to Atkins Induction.

Just check out this website for recipes https://www.dietdoctor.com Definitely not boring!!!

(the cheater) #30

No, I already explained that remark  I don’t think it’s boring at all!

Are you familiar with the work of David Feldman?

The blood test you are likely getting at the doctor is not an accurate depiction of your health status

(the cheater) #32

I’m gonna check that link out. And yeah, as I noted, we discussed that the cholesterol numbers aren’t as accurate/relevant/complete as they could or should be, but he wasn’t worried either way.

I absolutely love this! So glad you shared. Thank you!

Letter on Corpulence, by William Banting. It was a runaway best-seller and went through at least four editions.

Bacon is good!

Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words!

I don’t know if I mentioned it, but one of my coworkers/nurses has been against the diet the whole time. He kept saying that it was damaging my body, yadda yadda yadda. Well, finally I had lab proof and my doctor’s endorsement, and when I mentioned it to him, he said, “Well, what makes you think I respect that doctor?” lol he keeps moving the goal post. Needless to say, we’ve agreed to disagree at this point. Anyway, love you guys, love this site!
