B12 and B Complex vitamin recommendations

Does anyone take both a B12 and B complex supplement that you are happy with? I thought I’d try it to see if it helps with my hair loss.

No expert. I take B12. The only thing I’ve heard is to take the form Methylcobalamin in a sublingual form.
If you take iron as I do, I’ve been told to separate them.

I take several B vitamins individually. B1, folic acid and I use nutritional yeast which contains quite a few B vitamins, not B12.

Sorry if you’ve mentioned this elsewhere, but have you gotten a blood B12 lab test? Fairly cheap (here in the US); you can order one yourself without Rx, getting results in a day or two.

Before adding additional B12 to my system beyond what’s contained in healthy foods (meat, fish, milk, eggs), I’d want to know whether I have a deficiency - in which case there’s likely some mal-absorption taking place. If that’s so, then in addition to supplementation, I’d want to know why that’s happening rather than just mask the B12 deficiency symptom.

My (unlicensed) $0.02.

Thank you. Do you just go to a blood lab and pay out-of-pocket?

That’s the way my wife and I get most of our tests through an online service like Request-a-test. They offer both LabCorp and Quest as options based on what’s most convenient (sometimes slightly different prices) for you.

In the US, you can get a B12 (and other B complex bloodwork) at one of their blood-draw storefronts. I believe it costs around $50-60. You pay online, get a confirm # you present without an appointment needed. You likely have to fast for some number of hours beforehand so confirm with the instructions you get.

In fact, these places actually run “sales” where it’s 10 or 20% off at certain times of the year. So we buy our tests then, and you have up to a year to actually get the labwork done. :face_with_monocle:

Here are sample results from each service:

I don’t know if we have those here. I’ve never heard of it.
