I just ate 150 gr of avocado and checked nutrition values on-line. It states that this amount of avocado corresponds to 12 gr of carbs. I am measuring carbs and want to stay below 20 gr per day, and I see now that I am all ready half way there. I thought avocado was one of the most Keto friendly foods, but it is quite high in carbs.
Any thoughts?
Avocado and carb limit
I do “Page 4” keto and half an avocado a day is allowed (encouraged?) and it’s almost as if it doesn’t count due to the healthy fats and fiber. Everything else is counted as whole carbs on my plan. It bugs me that my tracker tells me I’m over on carbs if I eat the avocado but I’ve learned to ignore that.
yeah, they are high in fibre (and also potassium) - but I’ve seen the calories / carbs and had to read the labels a few times. Usually one decent sized one without the skin and stone is 130g a piece and has you up at your carb limit before deductible fibre grams.
Gorgeous in a salad though with chicken and poached eggs!
Subtract the listed fiber from the listed carb and there you have your net carbohydrate for that food. Example-
8 oz. Yum-Yum Chips.
200 calories
12 g. Carbohydrate
5g. Fiber
(12-5=7)
=
7 g. Net carbs
It is, kinda, but you have to be careful. Putting food into the tracker beforehand really helps. We usually put in what we’re going to eat for the day, which makes it pretty clear.
If you fudge your carb count a little from eating an avocado, it’s not tragic. Avocados are awesomely good for you. It’s not the same as if you went over your limit from eating a chocolate chip cookie. I usually eat 2-4 per week, but usually just a half per day.
Are you suggesting that a calorie is, in fact, not a calorie? #equalrightsforallcalories
I’m not letting that same cat out of the bag… just yet. Let’s just say I am showing bias toward quality calories.
Personally I count only net carbs, so once I subtract the fiber from the avocado’s total carb count, they aren’t a problem for me.
