Aussie BGL/Keto ratios....I still don’t understand

So, I rarely have significant blood ketone levels, I did have a 2.2 a couple of weeks ago after fasting for 24hrs. I now have glucose strips. Tonight BGL 4.2, ketones 0.9 after 23 hour fast.

46yr old female, BMI 22 achieved with Keto, haven’t been tracking food intake for quite some time but have started recording ketone levels to try and gauge how they affect my moods. Morning ketone levels (12hr after food intake) 0.1 or 0.2. Keto for 14 months.

Any advice or ideas?

Are these pee strips or blood ketone strips.

Why are you chasing numbers? They’re really not so important. It’s common for levels to be low first thing in the morning due to cortisol being higher at that time.

Phinney and Volek say that the benefits of nutritional ketosis start to become apparent at any level of serum β-hydroxybutyrate over 0.5 mmol/dL, so it sounds as though you are doing just fine.

Thanks everyone, blood glucose and blood ketone levels @MarkGossage.

I’m just experimenting and was surprised (disappointed?) at my low numbers. I may have been at these levels for 12 months, I’ve only just started checking in the last few weeks.

Not sure why I’m chasing numbers, the morning I was 0.1 ketones I woke feeling fantastic…go figure!

So far as I know if you are registering ketones you are to some extent in ketosis. My lowest numbers are usually in the morning… probably something to do with higher blood sugars due to the dawn phenomenon… and highest mid to late afternoon. If I want to get really high ketone numbers I need to fast but to be honest I don’t think there’s a lot of benefit. So long as you are registering you’re doing ok.

That’s what matters.
