Hey do any of you eat the Atkins bars of chocolate? I seen it in the store and it said a net gram of carbs of two grams but the list of ingredients was daunting it look like a book. I’m very suspicious when I see you in the ingredients list that look like a book. So I may just have to make my own dessert which I have yet to master. I’m so afraid of those sugar substitutes after that blunder with Stevia giving me a massive headache. I have stayed shy away from sweeter I guess I’m going to try that swerve and see how that works.
Atkins chocolate bars
I do eat the Atkins chocolate items, and shouldn’t. Maltitol is evil. Don’t believe their net carb claims. Maltitol has over 2 calories per gram, so it should only be half-subtracted from carbs when computing net carbs.
When I’m craving something sweet:
- Easy pecan cookies, although I usually add Lilly’s chocolate chips and unsweetened coconut
- Chocolate donuts, although I make as cupcakes
- Chocolate Coconut Haystacks or Bark
- Chia pudding
- No-bake cheesecake fluff
- Egg Loaf or Fluffy Coconut Flour Pancake Rounds or Chaffles with sugar-free syrup
- Root beer float (diet root beer + HWC)
- Breyers Carb Smart or Halo Top or Enlightened ice cream
- SmartCakes are a delicious low carb commercial product, although a little expensive.
Yup, I agree with @OgreZed, the Atkins bars are loaded with maltitol which is not great. You are right about the ingredients reading like a book!
I did eat them when I first started low carbing via Atkins but now i eat keto I steer clear after reading so much about them.
It is a personal choice though…if you like them and they don’t interfere with your health goals then ok, for me they just don’t fit with my woe anymore.
Great source of recipes in that section and loads above from OgreZed.
Best wishes on your journey
Don’t usually eat them anymore, but they’re definitely the best tasting ones most of the time. Some people are scared of the maltitol, was never an issue for me or my wife.
I never tried the Atkins bars because they literally really like an entire book. And I was always told if you’re doing keto no ingredients should look like a book they should look like things that you can literally pluck out of nature
I eat them sometimes but tend to eat the whole box in a couple of days so it’s only an occasional thing after weeks of on track eating and if I’m sick to death of the dark chocolate.
Yesterday I melted two 95% Lindt dark chocolate squares over a pile of Kroger bacon bits and it didn’t require any artificial sweeteners thanks to the savory bacon. I found that trying little batches of experiments in the microwave helped me figure out what I liked instead of making a recipe and hating it and tossing the whole thing.
Dark chocolate melted with coconut oil (with/without sweetener) in the freezer. They melt nicely in your mouth. Whipped heavy cream with pumpkin pie spice mix dashed on top. Easy and a small amount is satisfying.
I stopped Atkins chocolate bars years ago. When I first started low carb almost 6 years ago, I tried a small chocolate bar from them. It was so good I had another, then another. Sometime later, I spent hours in the bathroom.
Now, if I want chocolate, I just get 85%+ chocolate.
I wanted to try one but since it read like a book I straight away from it and immediately went to the site to get advice. I’ve never tried one but I wanted to but I was always told if it reads like a book and is not Keto
Stevia give me a severe headache. After that severe headache with stevia I haven’t tried any of the substitute sweeteners although I talked about it and I want to I’m just so afraid of it
