Everyone needs to email Dr. Stamford about this article. I have emailed him and had a pleasant discussion. We in the Keto world need to present our case. He is a nice person but my feeling is that he does not fully understand hyperinsulinemia. He does agree that fructose and refined carbs are evil.

But, without carbs, you can’t metabolize the fat, so you send it to the liver where it is converted into ketones.
What is he trying to get at ?
Must be this …
Ever heard the phrase, fat burns in a carbohydrate flame?
It’s true. To be as least scientific as I can, carbohydrate metabolism provides a compound called oxaloacetate, which must combine with Acetyl Coenzyme A in the Krebs cycle to fully break down fat. Therefore, restricting carbs will not result in greater fat loss. If anything, it will inhibit fat metabolism and likely make your body burn muscle – NOT GOOD! So eat your carbs.
Here’s the proof he’s wrong
Fat provides oxaloacetate. Can anyone imagine that a period of food deprivation would not supply the necessary metabolites to utilise ketone bodies? Well duh.
Even simpler is that if carbs are needed ,gluconeogenrsis would easily meet the demands.
This article is very frustrating. Many people believe what he says because he is a nutrionist that is published in a local newspaper. With great power comes great responsibility. This author needs to understand insulin and it’s negative impact on our body before he a starts giving nutritional advice
