Arrgh! Added 6 pounds in the past week!

Not sure what gives! I have been doing Keto for 6 months and had lost 35 pounds. I had been stuck there for about 1.5 months, so I’ve tried fasting and going more hardcore on fat to try and ‘break through’ my barrier. Now, for the past week, I have been gaining a pound per day! Grrrr… My diet is a BP coffee in the morning, and then a single meal at about 4pm each day. My ketone tester has always shown 2.0+, so I still am in Ketosis, but WTF!!! Sorry, kinda need to vent.

Any other changes that might explain it?

Changes in sleep patterns? Additional stress? Both can result in an increase in cortisol levels, which could cause weight gain.

I feel your pain! I have also gained 7 lbs this week. A lot just yesterday. I drank water spiked with some tea very very slightly sweetened with xylitol all day. I ate 8 oz of steak at dinner. I gained 3 lbs. and my FBG is up 18 points this morning. I think xylitol is not my friend. Not even a little bit. Starting a 3 day fat fast this morning I gotta get that FBG down!

I dont know how you can fast and drink bulletproof coffee at the same time.

I would dump that bulletproof and drink black coffee. BPC will make you fat. At the beginning you can drink it a lot but you need to be careful with it as you drop massive amounts of lard off your frame.

You can still drink it but its best use as an energy drink before doing intense exercise suck as weiglifting and running.

Its good that your thinking about fasting. Thats pretty much the end goal. Keto is just an early stage to help you get there. Once you have control of that fat storage is not an issue and you can move on to rebuilding you body.

I love bulletproof more than anyone but i am the first to say its pretty much keto junkfood. It is excellent as a pre workout energy drink on days you just cant seem to get motivated. i use it in an emergency for the most part.

Interesting points everyone. The biggest shock to me is that BPC should be curtailed - this could be the problem. Most of the books and podcasts sing the praises of BPC and I thought they meant to drink it consistently. I’m more than happy to drop it, as black coffee tastes better to me!!!

I’ll also look into the xylitol… I found a sugar free chocolate that I eat a square of once in awhile. It may have that in it…

Thanks all. I feel like I have a new path to explore now!

careful with artificial sweeteners. They can mess with your head. Its basically keto junk food with zero nutritional benefits and plays havic with you psycology.

You are misleading people, IMO. BPC is nothing more than coffee plus fat, and good fats, at that. If you are consuming high-quality fat, and not consuming beyond sateity, there is no reason why BPC would be considered unhealthy in the least, much less “junk food”.

So you may well be the first to say it, but you’ve offered nothing to back up that opinion. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but you should probably be clear that you’re offering opinion rather than fact.

Really? So if I were to add one daily on top of my usual food for a week I would gain weight right?

#9

its junk because it JUST fat and nothing else. If your already have fat on you its a waste nutrition wise.

Dont get me wrong. Coconut oil is great and along with avacado part of my staple. But you need other stuff too thats far more valuable.

As a keto energy drink pre workout i have never found anything close.

Kind of like fat bombs… is it keto yes… is it junk yes. its very similar to being sugar adapted and drinking coke.

Keto is awesome… nothing like it. But you still need to eat nutritious foods.

Ron Coleman’s 46 day fast thread is a good example of the limitation of tracking body weight. He has been averaging losing about 3/4 lb / day. He is in continuous fairly steady caloric deficit. Undoubtedly he is steadily losing fat. But his weight loss is not at all smooth and steady. Some days his weight goes up. It may not drop much for a week and then plunge over a couple days. When he ends his fast he might eat lightly for the first day or two and perhaps still be losing fat, but his weight will show the additional food and water in his digestive system.

LOL… yeah body weight is kind of useless. Best thing I have found as a somewhat consistent monitor is belt size. Stick with the same belt every day.

weight scales turn you OCD real fast.

I have experimented twice with mixing up my fat intake and fasting. I had been stuck for a couple of months. The fast helped me drop a couple pounds. I just ended a short fast today. Will see what turns up on the scale in subsequent days.

Peace!

when i started all this keto stuff i had no knowledge of fasting. I hit a wall and could not break through. So I went 16/8 after a bodybuilder suggested it. Worked pretty well for a while… hit another wall. Said what the heck I will try going 24. Worked for a while hit a wall. OK… how about 72 and 500 reps of core works along with some tricks. Did it for a month straight and it got me down to 8% body fat. Seems low but I know a guy that got to 3.5%. Kind of gross but impressive as hell. That guy is superhuman in my mind to achieve that.

I dont think I could have started with 72 hours though. Seems like i had to teach my body. Now i just jump into 72 hours fasts like its nothing. Kind of like my body learned a new way to function.

I went from 220 to mid 140s in less than a year with all this. I would say the last 10lbs was by far the hardest part. Very very tricky and you have to be diligent and stay the course. Its worth it to see your abs though which I never had before even as a child.

So what is the ratio when you say 16/8 when referring to fasting? I have seen folks notate that before, but I’m not clear on it. 16 hour fast, then 8 hours of what? tia.

8 hour eating window…not to be confused with 8 hours of eating!
