How is this for insane?
Arkansas Bans Cauliflower Rice
Wow😳
I have noticed that some Brands list theirs as “ riced cauliflower “
Insane none the less
Geez
Just change the name from cauliflower rice to “I can’t believe it’s not rice!” lol problem solved
While they are at it, they should ban popcorn chicken. Can’t have people accidentally eating chicken when they expected popcorn.
Seriously, if the people in Arkansas need protection from accidentally ingesting cauliflower, they need a lot more help than laws can provide.
Well, it is actually “riced cauliflower”. “Cauliflower rice” should actually be a rice dish with cauliflower in it, like a Cauliflower Risotto.
There are also complaints about the non-dairy “milks”, like coconut milk. But, again, easy enough to just relabel accurately as “coconut milk substitute”. It’s not cow’s (or goat’s) milk with coconut flavoring added to it.
Whaaaaaat… god forbid the 3rd most obsese state in the US accidentally mistakes bleached white rice for a vegetable.
The article states that 40% of US rice is grown in Arkansas. I think it is funny they think this legislation will protect them.
In the UK none of the non-dairy squashed nut or seed alternatives are allowed to be called milk…
What terminology do they use?
Come to think of it, isn’t it hypocritical of the rice lobby to complain about cauliflower rice when they have a rice milk product? Interesting. I just checked the Walmart Grocery site – the have a “Rice Drink” or a “Non-Dairy Rice Beverage”. I don’t even see “milk” anywhere on the carton.
Same here… Alpro are one of the biggest suppliers of it here’s their UK labelling no mention that its even liquid…
oops its in the drinks section so I guess that gives the game away…
Except that everyone calls it milk anyway!
Yes, none of the packaging says milk, just ‘drink’ or ‘dairy alternative’ or something similar. I did find one called ‘MYLK’ that I thought was quite clever.
According to Online Etymology Dictionary, “milk” has been used for milk llike plant juices since c. 1200. Since when has the human mind been unable to handle a metaphor? I blame carb brains.
I thought you guys lived in the Land Of The Free?? I guess it’s a land where you’re not allowed to serve vegetables in a certain way. Is there vegetable police?
There was also a lawsuit a few years ago against one of the almond milk companies, claiming false advertising because almond milk was less than 1% almond. Or something silly like that.
Funny they didn’t go after Swanson and their chicken broth.
We are also the Land of the Free to make stupid laws:
Kansas: Despite the fact that the law explicitly outlaws the throwing of snowballs, Topeka mayor Bill Bunten made international headlines in 2005 when he declared his intention to overthrow the ban in a hail of powdery projectiles.
Michigan: Some states put down strict laws about when and where you can sell alcoholic beverages and other controlled substances, but in Michigan, it’s cars that can’t be sold on Sundays.
I think it’s fine. Not labeling nut sweat as milk and soybean oil burgers as meat was a great start. The public at large is easily misled. Better to keep things simple for them.
