Hy everybody. This is my first post. I´m Enrique (58) from Argentina. 40 days in ketosis; 7kg lost (97 / 90).
Like this forum very much in spite of my english reading hardly reachs a 60% understanding. The main porpouse of the post is just to say hello from the very south to the community, but i will avail to introduce to you a local beberage that in find perfect for fastings: The Mate (you can goggle it). Its similar to tea, but it doesn´t need sugar nor sweeteners. Since we use to fill a pot many times with a thermos bottle, you drink it during large periods of time (while working for example) so you get a constant and deeper hidratation (drinking tea or cofee may give you 250cc of water while mate will give you 1lt !!). of course is an acquired taste so you will have to be patient; but you will end loving it. it´s also a beberage you share in family, something that may look not too higienic but is very good to get the people closer and triggers good conversation.
Thanks you all for the knowledge can be found here.
Argentinian mate. Perfect keto hot beberage
Bienvenido a los foros. Mi español es tan bueno que su inglés, pero tal vez podría ayudarle con su comprensión.
Buena suerte en ketosis, y díganos de vez en cuando de su progreso.
Thank you Darlene and Paul. My comprehension is chalenged to its limits in “show me the science”:
30% of understanding of biochemistry in spanish x 60% of understanding of english languaje= 18% of total understanding. But still enjoy it !!
My pre-coffee brain took one look at the subject and went “oooh look! A keto dating site!”
Welcome, Enrique!
Mary
Hola Enrique,
Yo tambien soy de Argentina - una Mendocina
But my english is far better than my spanish. My parents immigrated to Australia in 1972 - I’ve done all my schooling in Australia - I have very fond memories of sharing mate con mis tias y primos - y esa bombilla!
All the best with your keto journey - I’m using it to help me cope with illness - chronic fatigue & fibromyalgia. It makes an incredible difference to my quality of life.
Andrea
Hola Andrea,
Yo soy de La Plata, cerca de Buenos Aires. Me alegro que esta nueva manera de alimentarnos te haga bien.
Since you are mendocina, i assume you`re proud of the quality of mendoza red wines, specially Malbec. They say Malbec wines are very low in carbs (less than 2gr/cup) so I adopted it for weekends to match “keto asados” (do you remember them as well?)
Best regards
I have to, cause my husband doesn’t speak English. Solo Espanol!
Grande Enrique!!!
After a long time having the idea in my head, I’ve just started my journey in the keto diet. Knowing that “the Argentinian Mate” is Keto compatible makes me so happy!
But what makes me even more happier is the fact that Malbec in low in carbs too!!!
I tried mate a couple times. I found it
absolutely revolting. It’s like drinking burning plastic. I don’t care if it has vitamins. It’s gross. The first time I thought I got a batch tainted with solvent or something. I tried it again and realized that’s just how mate tastes.
Hehe, I know it’s not gonna be love at first sight with Mate, but it’s far from tasting like burned plastic. May be you were given a poorly prepared one (yes, there is a proper method to prepare Mate) or even one served in a plastic cup…
My partner hates it but got used to it and loves Mate now. However, it’s also a very cultural thing from Rio de la Plata and surrounding areas, if you are not “forced” to drink it many times it’s unlikely that you feel in love with it
Mate is not my favorite, but it’s not that bad. I can certainly understand how someone might come to love it.
+1
I don’t believe it is possible to “acquire” a taste for Vegemite/Marmite. It requires a genetic defect in the taste buds, surely!
I think you’re right, Paul. Or perhaps you have to be raised on it. Which my Australian husband was. Sadly…
I used to love Vegemite in my low fat days (daze?). And I was born in the US. But I have a high tolerance for things like that. Now, I use Vegemite/Marmite to add to recipes for umami flavor.
