Are you sleeping less?😴

So…I took melatonin which is a vitamin that induces relaxation for restful sleep. Pre keto, I’m asleep before my head hits the pillow, but this ketogenic diet wont let me be great at falling asleep
I needed a crane to drag me to the park for my scheduled 6miles and after a 10 min debate with myself I decided to walk. After the first .25mile, I was running, smiling, greeting people…I want my old “can fall sleep on a picket fence” habits back!!

Initially, I had problems sleeping, but not any more. But then again, I’m probably not a good representative sample.

i’ve had issues with melatonin so i don’t use it…
i’d double check the possible side effects if it’s new for you. it can also mess up your body’s natural rhythms since it’s a hormone we produce

the melatonin could be responsible for your need of a crane and a debate lol

have you tried valerian root extract or a magnesium citrate tablet before bed?
i’m out like a light even if i’m trying to think about things lol

you sleep?

Have you tried experimenting with the timing of your meals? As in when to stop eating at night, extending hours between last bite and when head hits the pillow?

How long have you been eating keto? I ask because it could be simply your body adjusting to this new way of eating.

Personally, I’m post-menopausal and sometimes have sleeping ‘issues,’ but they are never related to my eating (I’ve monitored to check). If anything, my sleep is better when in ketosis.

So am I and less sleep has certainly been a part of that “change!” I think the melatonin was responsible for my lack of enthusiasm when I woke up because I’m usually very refreshed with a little sleep since keto.

(Marshelle) #8

I will accept this a as cause because I had late meetings so I have been eating late a couple evening a week. I will try adjusting this.

I was asleep! :sleeping:I woke up with less exhaustion today. Melatonin was the likely culprit.

I usually sleep from 10-3. OCCASIONALLY 4. I just find myself wide awake. I’m never tired during the day though. I’ve just started reading when I can’t sleep. Sometimes I can sleep from 6-7 after that. I think I need to adjust my IF window and see if that helps.

For everyone else’s health, yes.

(Marshelle) #12

I take magnesium but not citrate and I will give valerian root a try.
I have been keto since 01/03/17. No issues with illnesses I just wanted to become fat-adapted, break food addictions and lose weight.
