Apps to use

(Wendy) #1

I have been using a free app on my phone called carb manager. Has anyone liked it? Not sure if I am doing this Keto thing right or not but I started 4/2/18 and down 9 pounds… here is the app… ! This day I went over my calories (1200) is what I try to stick with. image|281x500

Let me know if what the app calculated for me for my “max” a day seems right?

If it’s helping you track carbs, great, but where did you get the idea you should only eat 1200 calories?

I didn’t really??? Lol I just figured 1200 calories was a number I always heard to lose weight?

Don’t worry about calories. Especially starting out, all you really need to count is carbs. Keep them to 20g or less a day, eat moderate protein scaled to your lean body mass, and eat fat to satiety.

Eating fat is generally the toughest mental hurdle for new people to wrap their heads around since we’ve been told it’s bad our whole lives, but it’s really the key.

Check out the show me the science topics, and the newbies category for more info. I’d also recommend listening to the 2ketodudes podcast.

Your daily kcal needs depend on your age, gender, size, total weight, lean body mass and daily activity level.
Calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR), which is the amount of calories your body burns at rest and absolutely needs for its basic functions. Then calculate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), which is the amount of calories you burn doing day-to-day stuff.
For sustainable weight loss choose a kcal-budget above BMR but below TDEE.
