According to the British Dietetic Association, Keto works but isn’t sustainable. I lol’ed when I read that and had to let them know it’s laughable.
Lots of other misinformation to take issue with as well.

I can confirm the ketogenic diet simply isn’t sustainable and I am actually sending this message from my grave.
Get Outlook for Android Afterlife RIP Edition 7.0.4.
I think the people writing these things actually mean to write “I’m too scared to try it because my self control isn’t very good so I’ll say it’s not sustainable because I know I couldn’t do it”
The irony is that anyone who has been keto can assure you the difficulty level is about a 2/10.
Unless it’s one of the many people who over complicate everything about it and totally confuse themselves to the point where they give up and decide it doesn’t work… I’ve encountered plenty of them.
One of the biggest reasons for failure to adhere is that people think the fat loss happens quickly. They don’t understand it’s actually around 50-100lbs. per YEAR.
I almost did that. Thought I was going to starve or go crazy logging and weighing food. Then I said “ah, to hell with it” and just started winging it. So far so good.
When did Kobe get elected Keto spokesmodel ?
I see the goal here is to not attack ketogenic eating but to trivialize it … like it is a fad like being a celebrity is a fad/trend.
Nobody listens to Dietetic Associations. Thankfully.
I heard all of this BS when I was low carb 6+yrs ago, and accordingly, I should have had my widow maker strike me down in my tracks by now. One thing I’ve noticed in my years, is that when the propaganda machine cranks into high gear, the fear level is high from those who stand to lose the most without making any changes. What is most exciting is that change is inevitable. KCKO!
The generalization is correct, a HFLC diet is too restrictive to have long term compliance for the masses. Most people are not willing to eliminate rice, pasta, bread, fruit, and a host of veggies from their diet on a long term basis. The quizzical looks you receive from coworkers, family and friends illustrates this.
The first front is to get folks to reduce the pastries, pop, chips, and other junk food they consume. The second front is to encourage consumption of whole foods. The final front would be diet doctrine (ie. vegan, Paleo, HFLC).
And that last paragraph is utter nonsense. I eat more butter and creamy sauces than ever.
How are ya winging it? Just kinda approximating the 20g? Do you do gross carbs or net?
Hi Kat!
Pretty much. I just mainly get my carbs from mostly non-starchy vegetables and incidental carbs. I do treat myself to berries(not a lot), and wine but I seem to be able to handle a bit more carbs.
I try to stay moderate on the protein, sort of a general idea of how much I’ve had over the day to keep myself from getting too much. Probably the biggest issue for me is watching protein because I LOVE keto food.
Granted, I’m not doing this for weight loss or T2D so I have a little more wiggle room. I check myself a few times a day with the cheap breathalyzer method and my “rebellious” approach seems to work for me.
Oh, I mostly check net carbs…but I’m pretty new to this, too. I just knew if I got obsessive I wouldn’t stick to it so I made it fun instead.
Agreed. The only time it gets anywhere near close to being difficult is when you add in intermittent fasting or prolonged fasts. At the end of the day, it’s all mind over matter. If you want it enough you’ll make it happen, and if not, then you don’t want it as much as you say you do.
Personally, I try my hardest to avoid people who lack discipline or self control as they tend to have a negative personality and outlook on life and will do their utmost to drag you back down to their level, even if’s done on a subconscious level and they’re not really aware that they’re doing it.
Sadly, the only thing these people are a victim of is their own mind.
Well Diabetics who listen to Dietetic organizations stay diabetic.
Soooo it’s up to every diabetic whether they want to have a progressive or a reversible disease. And if they want to have a reversible disease, and they try keto and it works, then maybe they might want to have a chat to their friends and family who probably need to make the same decision.
The reason it’s ‘unsustainable’ for a lot of people is the availability and pushing of high carb/sugar products everywhere. You have to be pretty stubborn to ignore all the mainstream media, your Dr, friends and family, advertising, vending machines, restaurants and pretty much EVERYTHING out there that says ‘eat this - it’s healthy or it tastes good’.
If you were a reformed alcoholic that worked in a bar all day, then went out with your drinking buddies every night and your wife, kids and Dr and everyone you met had a beer in their hand, how long do you think you could last?
Keto 8+ years ~ it has been an education! Sustainable if you can think outside the box and question the ‘conventional wisdom’. It is easier and easier with forums like this and all the really accessible information available today. Good Calories/Bad Calories was my saving grace. No looking back after reading that.
