Anyone taking Lugol's Iodine Solution, and if so, how much?

This book is on my Christmas list:

My understanding is that it provides techniques for titrating your iodine level up to cure deficiency, then titrating back down to maintain. However, Santa is not coming for a while, and to test whether iodine was an issue for my getting cold when fasting, I’ve been adding Lugol’s solution to my diet:

I’ve been taking 6 drops per day, which is about 15mg per day. I take a break during the weekends. This has seemed to cure some dry skin I had, and I was able to fast 4.5 days. Today, though, where I’m trying to eat only one meal a day, I’m a bit chilly.

Is 15mg a day a lot? Not enough? Horribly high and I’m about to fry my thyroid?

PS – I also increased the amount I was eating and stopped any longer term (over say 16 hours) fasting, so I cannot attribute benefits to iodine exclusively, though I can tell it physically has an effect. Whether the effect is good or bad is hard to say, though my dry skin went away.

PPS – When I mean I got cold during fasting, it got to the point where I could not fast over 16 hours without my hands turning to complete ice, to the point where my kids and wife complained, and I could not touch myself. As soon as I ate, I was fine.

There’s a nice thread on here all about iodine and different folks who are following this protocol.

Shoot…my search did not turn that up. Sorry for starting another thread.

Hmmm…This seems to say 50mg/day for 6 months:

For my 2% solution, that would be 20 drops per day. Seems like a lot.

Good luck understanding what they’re talking about in that thread. You’ll need a PhD in science. I’m just a simple man who doesn’t understand all these medical terms and conditions. I just want to know if I need to take it. Dr Berry suggested it for my constantly being cold feeling. I would rather wait for my doc appt next week and get it tested first.

I read the thread (but not the articles). It really doesn’t answer my question. And I don’t have Hashimoto’s. And I’ve read bromine (and also fluoride) compete with iodine.

Not many people in that thread discuss how much iodine they’re taking. One person detailed it, otherwise not much detail is there.

I’m increasing my iodine up to 12 or more drops per day to see what happens. When I get the book I posted above and have time to read it and follow it, I’ll check back in with my results.

By the way, the chances that your doctor will tell you that you are deficient in iodine are zero. You might not want to even bring up the subject.

There’s a test you can do where you take a large amount of iodine then gather all your urine for a day. That’s the best test, but pricey. Otherwise, you’re pretty much on your own and have to see what happens to your body.

I use that same Lugol’s iodine. I put 2 drops in my coffee each morning, as recommended by Dr. Ken Berry in one of his videos (sorry, don’t remember which one).
