I have a left bundle branch block, which means the left and right parts of my heart are not synchronized, meaning there’s lower heart output.
My previous cardiologist had me on Entresto, which made me feel terrible. My new cardiologist put me on Jardiance/empagliflozin, which has made me feel much better. He also took me off Entresto (which, by the way, cause higher liver enzymes).
The problem? I had gotten to under 200 pounds before taking Jardiance. I gained 10+ pounds after taking Jardiance. As far as I can tell, I was/am eating similarly. (My daughter did try to kill herself during this time and also went into hospitals and many different mental institutions; yes, she’s better now.)
What Jardiance does is lower blood sugar by not absorbing glucose and instead causing it to be peed out. The general consensus is that it helps people to lose weight and lowers HbA1c. But those studies are on high carb people (generally, people with Type 2 diabetes).
I’m not that person. This drug seems to make me hungrier, as I am now sometimes getting hungry in the morning and also between my normal 2 meals a day. I’ve even eaten between meals, which is highly unusual.
This was my blood sugar way back in 2017, but it would be similar today:
Now say you drop that blood sugar even lower. What happens? Both my cardiologist and my normal doctor think nothing. But that blood sugar is the blood sugar my body wants for whatever reason. You lower it, and what happens?
I’ve done two 4.5 day fasts while on Jardiance, and I got the highest ketones and lowest blood sugar I’ve ever seen on day 4, and I took data over every other 4.5 day fast over the course of 12+ years. To me, this means something is happening, and couldn’t that thing affect my hunger?
Anyway, if anyone else is on Jardiance and keto, what happened to your weight?
