Anyone else here with low (and I mean, REALLY low) ketones?

I’ve been on LC/keto for 7+ years. I stopped taking blood ketones because they were always 0.1-0.2 mmol/l in the mornings. My ketonix (breath ketones) reading is also very low.

My daughter (10) was freaking out this morning about a physical and getting her finger pricked. So, I looked through my many meters, and found a Precision Xtra strip. I pricked my finger and showed her how easy it was to do. And I got a 0.1 mmol/l, same as I used to get…years ago.

Now, my ketones do go up during the day, so I’ll get higher at night. But not that much higher.

And my breath ketones only seem to tell me how much fat I’ve eaten yesterday. They’ll be higher if I eat more fat.

Both breath and blood ketones go up if I fast multiple days. Other than that, they’re low.

Anyone else with this low level of ketones?

Yes,

Very slowly over the course of the last 3 years acetone reduced. My ketonix bearly shows anything. Even after a days fasting it remaines low.

Ketostix still work. It shows positive in the morning before the first meal.

I don’t measure a lot, max ones per week.

Interesting. I haven’t used ketostix in a while, mainly because at one time I tracked all 3 (breath, blood, urine), and urine wouldn’t agree with the other two at times.

I would’ve though urine strips no longer worked. I’ll have to buy some and experiment. (They’re a lot cheaper then blood strips or a breath machine.)

yea more adapted you are thru the years your ketones are produced, burned and used by your body in many different ways then one ‘goes into ketosis’ from the start of a ketogenic eating plan. One will never show big changes in ketones when their body is a functioning ketone burning body thru years. But of course if one does a protocol to ‘put themselves in more’ active ketosis thru their food, like a PKD type protocol, yea you can ‘show more’ ketones.

Like 2 years into carnivore I bought my first ketone strips. I barely showed pink at all and thought darn but then I went off and read all about how a ketogenic menu and long term just won’t ever be the same as some forcing active ketosis or a newbie changing into a keto plan menu when they start.

I threw out the strips and never looked back LOL
