Anyone else have trouble remembering to drink water?

I used to inhale water all day long. Now I have a tough time remembering to drink enough so I’ve started using a water reminder app on my phone. :neutral_face:

Yes. I sometimes get so busy at work that I can’t tear myself away to drink water… then I will suddenly realize, I haven’t had a drop in three or four hours. Once I start drinking water at that point, it’s as I am drinking the most amazing thing ever. Now I try to keep a giant cup of water within arm’s reach at all times, to remind myself to drink.

I keep my glass that holds 32 ounces right beside the kitchen sink… and I fill it and down 32 ounces, min 5 times a day (for some reason I can always remember how many I have had, even though my memory is not always that great for other things!) I have found if I don’t get that much in me daily, I don’t lose weight… so I make sure I do.

I was on dialysis for ten years and they told me to try and keep my fluids at 500ml daily! Well I was never that good, that’s about 17oz a day including what’s in your food. Maybe this standard was meant to compensate that many people on dialysis don’t urinate much or at all. That’s the absolute minimum for bodily function. So three time a week your blood is filtered and excess water and toxins are removed.

Well I got in the habit over ten years time to learn to ignore thirst. Since then I got a transplant 1 1/2 years ago I have been struggling to change that ingrained habit. It’s something that I need to stay aware of.

I can’t imagine the struggles you must face daily. Best wishes on your journey to better health.

@David_Stilley

You have been through so much; and still seem so cheerful and are certainly extremely helpful on here. You are a real warrior, God Bless you, you are a remarkable person.

I have an insulated cup that I fill up with ice water and keep with me at work. If I don’t have a visual reminder I would never “get to” walking over to the sink and having a drink. It helps that it’s hot and humid. Winter time might be harder.
