Anybody have thyroid issues?

(Cassandra Higdon) #1

I just had a bunch of blood work done, and it turns out my thyroid isn’t working properly (it was working just fine 2 years ago when I last got blood work done).
Apparently theres a lot of things you shouldn’t eat if you have hypothyroidism, including broccoli and cauliflower?!?!

Anybody else have a bad thyroid on keto, and do you have to limit yourself even further on keto or???
My fave keto dish for dinner is a broccoli chicken bake with hwc and pork rinds topping… And now I can’t eat it??? Lol

If your taking thyroxin you won’t have any issues I’ve had thyroid underactive for 10 years no issues doing keto  I eat all the veg Himalayan pinks salt is good for it too

I was hypo for years, never heard the broccoli (or any other veggie thing). The only thing was if you take a T4 med, take on an empty stomach AND without coffee (my bad there!) But even T4 didn’t help me so I read Stop the Thyroid Madness and started Thyrogold.
I was doing chronic fasting and calorie restricting last year and absolutely TANKED my thyroid (TSH 8.25!), so nixed that in a hurry. Now, after much bg testing and all, eat a normal keto fatty diet and all is well.

Broccoli and cauliflower are goitrogens, along with brussel sprouts and some others. You’d have to eat A LOT of them to negatively affect your thyroid, and raw as well. You’re fine with the amount of them used in a keto diet. You’d be fine with the amount of them used on a SAD diet. The last thing you need to worry about are those veggies. And, yes, I"m hypothyroid, too.
