Anybody have any experience with the Egg Diet?

#1

I’m understanding that it’s kind of a 3-4 day “super keto” diet in which one just eats eggs ha ha. If not dead by boredom, some even faster drop in poundage seems to have occurred. Have heard it used post holidays or other times of excess in intake with scale overages as anticipated. Also read this being used to kick off a weight loss effort or to break a plateau.

Thanks !

So happy to have found this site and you all : ).

There are quite a few folks I’ve seen on here trying that, each with their own levels of success. Try searching the term egg fast and see what comes up. It’s something I can imagine trying as a sort of keto reboot, but I know I’d get tired of eggs pretty quickly LOL!

I tried one a couple of months ago, 5 days I think before I got bored. I’d rather just do a regular fast tbh, for the sense of achievement if nothing else.

I’m interested in the answers as well. Have toyed with the idea of trying it but haven’t, at least not yet. I’ve done a 3 day water fast not that long ago, and that did help me break through a plateau. Didn’t get all that far but reached another plateau pretty quickly. Didn’t gain it all back, but haven’t been losing it like I was for a while. So kinda thinking of giving an egg fast a try, too.

The “super-keto” egg fast, and the Fat Fast, were how I found keto.

Egg fast is self-explanatory; it works in the short-term, but tough to stay on.

Fat Fast: a limited-calorie repertoire of eggs, cream cheese & other very-high-fat foods, 1000 cal/day divided into 5 meals of 200 cal each. Based on the Atkins Fat Fast, which originally was only cream cheese & macademia nuts, designed for highly resistant individuals, to do for 3 days only to achieve “induction”.

When I found keto, I realized it was a more deluxe version of a fat fast, with more flexibility, more vegetables if desired, and by adding in IF and EF, a targeted solution to changing things up enough to be able to stay on indefinitely.

Thanks, all -I just did find a real good link on this - I’m quite sure that many of you are familiar with mysweetketo.com

This sounds like the egg fast is pretty much just a way to make sure that your diet is keto-macro compliant.

OK I think I’ll just give this a try. Will keep on with my “bulletproof” coffee (coffee /or tea/ + MCT of one sort or another + 1 T grass fed butter + tiny scoop stevia just for taste ) (So far don’t think stevia is getting in my way since not looking to eat sweets otherwise). So, will continue “bulletproof” once or twice a day, that’s turned out a nice habit that seems to fit right in unless the coffee itself is not good.

Now will eat an egg with an ounce of butter and then try and do that every 3 hours or so, the way they’ve said in this link here -->. http://www.mysweetketo.com/5-days-egg-fast/

Pls let me know if you think there is anything wrong with adding green tea or coffee to this in this way. Let me know if you want to know how this works : ) … here’s what I’ll be looking for

  1. Keto + in the morning as well as in the afternoons. (have been TR or 1.5 in the afternoons only before dinner and 0 in the ams which has been slightly bugging me : )

  2. Re-start and continued drop in pounds – aiming at about 2# down per week or more as long as feeling good.

In case anybody’s following, I’m aiming at BMI 20 from BMI 23, so not actually overweight - however really want to do this so here I am. I feel a whole lot better at 20 than I do at 23 — and I’m 64 years old so “got it” that if I’m every going to do whatever I’ve ever wanted to do The Time Is Now ha ha.

Losing weight from normal I’ve found to be real hard to do - this keto strategy marks my first real success in quite some years (!). Of course, I’m incredibly fortunate because I have not been impaired in this way by our society as so many have.

Also (btw!) strongly considering the possibility of becoming a “weight loss” doc, so all of this is helping me immensely in that consideration. Guess I might have to start a topic on that once I’ve been here for awhile. Totally impressed with this site and the people on it - as well as on Carb Manager which is an ap and has a forum. I could do this as a part time doc with less of what I’m doing now as an ICU and acute hospital care doc. Might be a real nice (semi-) retirement plan

OK, starting now !

I tried and there was good and bad. The bad is that I don’t really think it does much of anything magical, just kind of a ‘fun’ way to mix things up.

The good is that it is easy, not a lot of stuff to track. The best though were the recipes, I didn’t want to stick to my usual stuff so I made something different every meal, got 3 recipes that are now favorites. To that end, I though cream cheese with eggs would be gross, but it is great.

I often make Philadelphia roll omlettes: omelette rolled around slightly melted cream cheese and smoked salmon.

oooohhhh !! I will love to hear some recipes like this that people love to eat. Just had 2 eggs scrambled in coconut oil topped in the skillet with slices pepper jack cheese - 2 because first 2 today, after this will go at 1 egg mix like this every 3 hours or 6 per day.

Yes i’m going to need to find some recipes to make this happen !!!

Thanks so : )

This worked well for me as a way of bringing down my bg and also upping my ketones quickly and I lost some weight. I liked the variety of ways of eating eggs and it added a few new recipes to my weekly menu too after I’d finished it. But I only did it for 5 days. I’d do it again.

@Ah-tee would you consider maybe looking at how much protein you need? You would need enough to maintain muscle mass, but not excess which would promote an insulin response. There are several methods, and online free calculators you could use to determine this. Once you have your protein requirements, you could then calculate how many eggs you need to do the ‘diet’ successfully, to maintain muscle mass, stay in ketosis and encouraging your weight loss.

I did only eggs for 3 days and really enjoyed it. What surprised me the most was how filling just eggs and fat could be. I usually skip breakfast and have 2 hard boiled eggs smashed up with a tablespoon or two of mayo for egg salad at lunch. Then for dinner, I’d do 3-4 eggs scrambled in bacon juice with some cheese thrown in for good measure. Totally satisfying. I aimed for 6-7 eggs per day and at the end, I lost a couple pounds and still love eggs too…bonus!

Real good question. I’m reading further on this - currently finding Keto-Clarity by Jimmy Moore and Eric Westman MD real interesting. So much stuff around about all this ! Have a blood ketone glucose meter coming in a couple days so will use that to clarify just where I’m at ketogenic wise. Next question for me will be how to carb load for exercise (30 minutes strong lap swim or run-walk-run or slow lifting weights - not to mention hiking in the woods or biking around town or woods for fun). Another question will be what the best individual balance for my system will be to add back my organic vegetables from time to time. Also like brown rice a lot but can eat small amounts of that. Not in a big hurry for that but would like to end up with a balanced strategy.

Ha ha - so my background for this is normal BMI wanting to go lower just cuz for me (!) — 23 to 20 is my aim, now at 22 with early ketogenesis : ). Also lifestyle of a non-toxic organic veggie-pesc/seafood foodie who loves to cook for and with her friends and family. So would like to keep some of that if I can in the longer run.

How bout you ?

 Hi @Ah-tee  Oh I am a foodie lol I am extremely active as I train Crossfit x3 per week with my daughter, and soccer training x2 per week and boxing training x1 per week with my son. Currently it’s the off season so we hike weekends with my wife, or hunt or golf, but during winter it’s soccer games. The great thing is that with a Ketogenic based lifestyle you honestly do not have to carb load for any of it. I did find initially (I have been Ketogenic the past 4 odd years - minus trips to Greece where mum insists I eat  ) that some of my heavier lifts where harder, but over time with fat adaptation and more calories from fat (this was my key) I have surpassed them. Cycling carbs is a trick athletes can use if they want the last 1% of anaerobic energy (ATP-PC system and the lactic acid system - but these are short term energy pathways from 10 secs for the first to 90 secs for the second - hence why i am stuffed sprinting 200 meters). At 43 I am fitter now than I have ever been and thoroughly enjoy my time with my family. I do stick to a rough 50 gram of carbs as opposed for the 20 grams but then I have never had a real metabolic problem (well not obvious at the time I started). I hope that long winded answer explains. Irespective I always recommend people go out and have, experiment with their food (it’s great we can play with our food lol) and see how you respond

oh sorry forgot to mention - my BMI sits at 24 (I am not a fan of BMI as for years my doctor told me I was over weight whilst I was at 10% body fat). I aim for 90 to 120 grams of protein (any more and I slide out of ketosis). I used the Zone Diet calculator years ago to track protein (which uses a block system e.g. 1 egg is one block, or 30g of meat is one block etc. and for my lean weight then I would be on 17 blocks day  ). I found the Zone Diet though caused me to crash both emotionally and physically, I struggled to complete WODs. My performance improved as I started to add more fat into my diet.
