Any use for a blender?

#1

I have just been given a nutribullet blender, more or less new.

I can’t think of what I might actually need one for.
I used to work as a chef, and used food processors for pastry and pesto mostly, but not sure if I want to keep this, or move it on.

Does anyone use these small blenders for any keto foods?
I’ve spent the last few months learning to reduce processing in the kitchen.

I don’t even think I would make nut butters as I would rather eat nuts whole, rather than process them.

Some recipes I’ve made recommend a bender, but you could do it some other way.

Is it a stick blender? If so, those are good for soups/sauces and mayo.

But not really needed, at least for me.

No it’s a bar with a motor, then it has different blades and a bunch of cups. You out what you want to blender in the cup, screw on the blade, then push the whole thing down on to the motor.
I have a stick blender and a large food processor.
I am just considering if I should give it away or if it can replace my food processor and stick blender as it takes up less space.

My sister uses her blender to crush pork rinds to use as breading (say, for chicken parmigiana or the like).

#5

Oh yeah! Now we’re talking. That’s a great idea.

I have 2 blenders :frowning: One old, another that was in a set where I actually wanted another part. And there are just sitting there, never ever used.
I go off keto all the time, I cook for a high-carber but we still can’t imagine what on earth could be do with the things.

I use my stick blender every day for egg milk and sometimes pancake but the big one? I just don’t eat such things.
I use my food processor super rarely too but it can make mincemeat and make very thin beetroot slices and we occasionally use both. But that’s about it.
Thankfully I never liked to collect kitchen machines  I have a few needed and some old unused stuff only (I still haven’t thrown out my fruit juicer - theoretically I could use it once a year or something but whole fruit is so much funnier and no work. I used it maybe once or twice in the last decade - and I actually use my dehydrator about once a year…).

But I am sure there are eggy recipes for a blender somewhwere. But if someone has a stick blender, 1-2 small blenders (I have 2. one is from the mentioned set, again) and a food processor… A big blender requires some passion towards big turmixes or I don’t know. But I could make them with my stick blender too.

It couldn’t. A stick blender is super easy to clean, a few seconds. I like to use it for my every day things (easily 3 times a day in the past… I liked my eggy coffees).
And a food processor has more functions than a blender.

I agree with you.
A few other bits I left out. I don’t actually use my stick blender much, because I also have an electric whisk for whipped cream.
But actually I use protein shakers for a lot of stuff.
If I’m making pancakes just for my sons, then I add the mix to a shaker. That way the electric whisk doesn’t wake up my wife.

I might put the food processor away and see what happens.

Though why not use a food processor for that?

I have used a similar “blender” for cutting herbs.

#9

It’s too big. It’s a full size for processor fort making pastry. If you try to make a single portion of anything it gets stuck to the sides and the blades do not touch it. It’s more for pastry, soups and breadcrumbs.

#10

Yeah, I use my whisk for whipping eggs or cream.
But my eggy drinks don’t need such a serious and harder to clean thing  My stick blender is even easier to get off from its place, I just need to get off from its hook and often it’s even plugged in… I can be very lazy. But it’s not just that. The whisker can’t be used on my mug. It would bring the liquid everywhere. The blender is perfect for it.

I use the whisk for pancakes but it’s doable with the stick blender too, flexible dish. But I rarely eat them anymore. Very hard to stick to carnivore when I make a lot of pancakes and why would I make only 1-2? And if it’s the 3rd already, I tend to think about sweet ones…

I don’t have a shaker. I imagine it can be useful here and there… But most of my things probably need a more serious blending due to the eggs.

Yep, that’s why I usually use my way smaller graters when I want to cut up something.
I take out the food processor only when I make mincemeat as the tiny ones only use the bottom properly and that’s way too little for mincemeat.
I originally wanted to make riced cauliflower with that machine (oh it was almost another life when I adored most vegs) but nope, it made it into almost a mush. Stupid thing. So I would need to use my SO (I can’t cut things into tiny pieces if my life depends on it) to make fried cauliflower if I still wanted it. He’s a handy though not always available kitchen machine (and room heater. 100-150W or something? and many more).
Good thing that the food processor makes good mincemeat. Older people all have meat grinders but I never owned one (no wonder, I was a vegetarian who couldn’t even bake cookies when I moved out. I only know that 2 uses for it). People don’t buy mincemeat because people don’t trust other people, with a reason. Something like this. Moms teach their kids not to buy it ever, mine and my SO’s surely did. it’s SUPER easy to make mincemeat anyway. Yeah, still a tiny cleaning but we know what gets into it. Vaguely. Once I bought some “pork loin” that was the fattiest cut of pork I ever saw beyond the ones with the majority of them being visible fat.

I got carried away. Again. Sigh.

Only ever use mine to make keto coffee.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #12

I don’t know; you’ll have to ask her.

#13

I have a separate meat mincer as well! Way too many gadgets in my kitchen!

#14

Try a protein shaker, way less mess.

(Allie) #15

But nowhere near as effective.

No mess with a bullet blender anyway, just needs a quick wash after.

(Bob M) #16

It could be smaller. Our old stick blender went down, and we bought a new one based off of recommendations (from Wire Cutter?). It has a plastic container and blade, as an accessory, and it’s not bad to clean. Meanwhile, our food processor has four parts (main container, top, plug that goes in top, blade) to clean.

We made a mistake with this stick blender, though. It’s too big and doesn’t fit in most things. You have to use its own container.

#17

Ouch. I like that my stick blender is small, goes into every proper mug of mine and I don’t need to clean a container. ALL such things belonging to my kitchen machines are a pain to clean unless I do something super clean but nope, I work with fatty ingredients…
It’s not THAT bad but I am lazy enough to decide I am fine with eating a piece of roast and some simple eggs and drink a coffee and that’s about it for the day…
(But whipped things are amazing so I usually have some fluff too  With the least amount of cleaning possible. I often do 2-3 fluffy things at once and that’s only 2 little but troublesome whisks. The bowls are fine, easy to clean. Except the big bowl belonging to the stand of my hand mixer - because I got bored of just holding the stuff for a minute or two. I am horrible. my grandma made big sponge cakes for weddings using her hands! - , it has zillion hard to clean grooves(?) and I managed to pour - keto - chocolate cake dough into it last week. I will use a ladle next time or just hold the mixer in my hand, so much easier.)

I had a bullet blender. I thought it would be wonderful, but it wasn’t really. In my opinion.

I’m getting away from processors and blenders too. I still have a stand mixer, which I use for chopped egg (egg salad) only.

I received some of those blending cups with the Ninja blender. I’ve been thinking I might blend a small whey/frozen berry shake with it, but it hasn’t happened.

Sometimes I like to make an iced SF drink with the larger blender. Maybe this summer I’ll try it with the smaller cups. For now, I just don’t feel like using the blender at all.

Yes,
I keep thinking that I would make some protein shakes with strawberries and peanut butter in.
But I can eat 3 strawberries and a spoon of peanut butter while I’m shaking a regular protein shake with less cleaning up.
