Any specific care for platelets count while in Keto?

Hello Folks,
I would like to share my personal experience on the Platelets while in Ketogenic diet. Two times I observed that soon after being in diet for some months (>3 months) my Platelets count is getting low below 150,000 platelets per microliter (mcL).
Have anyone encountered such issue?
Usually doc prescribe to have beetroot, pomegranates , papaya, etc. But while in Keto I can only go for keto adhered things for supliment. Any specific thing should one take care of for platelets while in Keto? Thanks for your thoughts.

Sure it’s keto? I just went back and checked a bunch of labs while I was still doing strict keto and they were always good, mine aren’t in the units that yours are in so hard to compare but always on the top end of the range. Were you aware of your platelet count prior to keto?

Prior to Keto it was above 150, and just two days back (being in keto for more than 3 months now) got a test done and found it is low . Last year also similar thing happened with me.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #4

Low platelets can be caused by a number of conditions and by certain medications, as well.

If this condition is likely the result of a medication you are taking, you might wish to discuss with your doctor how necessary the medication is, and the possibility of lowering the dose or switching to a different drug.

If there is some other problem, you might have to follow your doctor’s advice on how to treat it, even if treatment interferes with your ketogenic diet.

I suppose it depends on how severe the problem is. If you have noticeable symptoms of low platelets (bruising, poor clotting, petechiae, etc.), then I would definitely be concerned; if you only found out about the low platelets because of blood work, then your doctor might be willing to take a wait-and-see approach.

I started keto in December of 2016.

My platelet readings from there back to the start of 2015 averaged 266 over 5 different tests, from 229 to 325. From 2017 on, I’ve been tested 9 times, averaging 186, from 172 to 213.

So platelets certainly look significantly lower since starting keto.

But still well within the “target” range of 150 to 450.

High platelet count is an indication of inflammation.

Spices like curcumin reduce platelet count. Curcumin is great if consuming an inflammatory grain diet and obviously bad on keto. Are you consuming any spices?

The following is interesting.

If you don’t mind, what are they? You say in the original post they’re below 150, before they were above 150, that’s an infinite range on either end. Are we talking 151 vs 149? Are they low to a point where it’s a concern? Or are you just spooked because you’ve just move outside of a set lab range? Many people say their cholesterol is “normal” at 199 then “high” at 200.

Got your point. It’s 80 , so I am concerned.

Ya, that’s a little bit. I’d start a good dose of B-12, Folate and Iron (go easy on that one). I think Vit C helps that too but double check that. If there was a time you could actually get prescribed EPO it would be this one! That stuffs awesome! I acquired some at one point to see how it was, as a guy who hates cardio type work aside from mountain biking all I can say is WOW!
