Any keto meal services like Freshly out there? - UPDATE

#1

Started keto almost 4 weeks ago, down 10 lbs so far. Prior to starting this, I ordered my lunches from Freshly, which were absolutely delicious. I don’t like making lunch, so Freshly was a way to get good food, prepared and delivered.

On keto, I tried and tried, but could only find Quest Keto. The meal were okay, nothing great. Then they shut down, so now I’m back to trying to find something.

Before anyone says “spend all day Sunday preparing meals…” I’ll go ahead and tell you it ain’t gonna happen. I need to find something convenient, but it still needs to be interesting enough that I want to eat it. A meal replacement shake is not an option…

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

the closest I’ve found has been homechef… they offer lowcarb / “carb concious” meal prep… you still have to do the cooking, so I’m not sure if it fits the bill you’re looking for.

That - and while they’re low carb meals, they also tend to be lower in fat as well. I think there’s some sort of rule out there where the commercial meal can’t be a high % fat. I get these for my wife and I when I want to be lazy about shopping and I usually have to sub out some of the more carb heavy items with something else… Also have to stay on top of what they’re trying to pass off as low carb. I’ve seen some meals that are marked low carb, but have much more than 20g. They also don’t provide fiber information yet about the meals so you can’t do the fancy net carb math as easily.

I would be greatly interested if there was something out there that would fit the keto macros but not be a shake/bar replacement deal.

My wife does HomeChef. Some of the meals are easy enough to pull the carbage back out, others aren’t. But what I really want is something that is fully prepared, heat & eat type stuff. Grab & go and toss it in my bag for lunch at the office.

I could pick & choose the Freshly meals and throw out the potatoes or rice or whatever, but I hate the idea of food waste.

Our go to lunches are bagged salad mix, with carb friendly salad dressings, toss in either tuna, pre sliced steak slices or roasted chicken from the grocery. Not a hot meal, so no microwave needed. We like pork rinds in place of crackers or bread with this.

It is dead easy.

My go to lunches are grab and go. But they are leftovers from the night before that we put in tupperware containers. Can reheat and eat.

Perhaps look for paleo meal services that allow you to customize?

Heard about this on a keto podcast. I think the ketovangelist. I have no experience. It sounded like they may go a bit higher than 20 carbs but don’t know for sure.

Maria Emmerich has been advertising a new brand called Ketoned Bodies that are pre packaged meals. http://ketonedbodies.com/

I found ketonedbodies yesterday, and another called ketofridge. In both cases the food looks really good. Sorta pricey, but I guess that’s what I get for being lazy!

I’m going to put in a trial order with ketofridge, and I’ll report back. Many of the entrees at ketonedbodies appeared to have way more carbs than I have been consuming. That, and their website has so many spelling errors it makes me cringe. Yeah, I know that’s a silly reason not to try them. But if you’re gonna hold yourself out to the public, do so in a manner that makes you look brilliant, not half-assed.

So, as I said above, my wife uses the HomeChef and Plated type services. Today I randomly ran across a meal planning service called Platejoy. At the outset you take a quiz about you, your lifestyle, etc. You tell it what dietary restrictions, one of which is KETO!!! Tell it how many meals, which meals, etc. Tell it how much time you’re willing to spend cooking for each meal. Then it asks you if there’s anything in your pantry/fridge you want to use up. In my case I have a bunch of steaks and ground beef.

It goes through and creates a day-by-day menu. You can swap out meals you don’t like. Then it creates your shopping list. If you live in an area where Instacart is available, your shopping list can be sent over there, and your groceries delivered.

You are responsible for following the directions to prepare the meals. Looking at the macros for each day, it came out pretty much perfect for me. I’m going to give it a shot, in addition to doing a week of ketofridge for my lunches.
