Any Advice for Work Trip to London

(Keith) #1

I’m traveling to London this week for work. I’ll be there an entire week. So far my plan is to have BPC in the morning which will hopefully keep me full until around dinner. For dinner, try to do my best of just a protein (minus gravies and sauces) and a Keto veggie. If anyone lives in the UK and can offer pointers, that would be a great help too. Thanks!

Don’t live there, but having traveled in England, I’d say it is easy to get a good steak or roasted beef dinner just in all the towns and cities there. London’s eating landscape has gotten more sophisticated in the last decade as well. So there are ethnic places all over and the famous noise to tail concept has resulted in some interesting restaurants. Chef Fergus Henderson has made it very popular there. You might want to stop into one of his restaurants as a treat to yourself. Here is a link to a sample menu of St. Johns Maltby.

Sauce on the side was always available when we ate out, even in the small town pubs. I think you will survive just fine for a week.

Hopefully some Brits can jump in with some places you might want to try out.

You might probably want to try some different cuisines… so here would be my tips (what I do here)

Indian - Try a dry dish like chicken tikka and have a keto veg like spinach or aubergine (or both)

Chinese - Roasted duck (ask them for the sauce on the side as it can be sweet) or crispy duck without pancakes or sauce but the spring onions and cucumber should be fine watch out for sauces which are usually thickened with cornflour. Your can also sometimes find cripsy lamb which is usually served with lettuce wraps.

If you want a good steak then maybe try Hawksmoor. There are various branches around London but it’s not cheap

All day breakfasts if you want to try what we call a “greasy spoon” cafe try to find one where you can choose the items to miss out the carbage but eggs bacon mushrooms etc shoudl be available although sometimes the quality can be suspect.

Whereabouts are you staying in London? There may be some more specific places that I could suggest but I’m guessing after working you won’t want long subway journeys.

You MUST go to Zelman Meats in Soho. My favourite London restaurant. You can order slices of all sorts of steak and fatty brisket etc.

Also, go to any supermarket and buy EXTRA THICK double cream (not just normal double cream). Then enjoy spooning it out with some raspberries.

I love how you Americanised underground/Tube there! So thoughtful.

No, no, no. You must buy clotted cream. That stuff ^^^ is usually thickens with something or other. Clotted cream is the real deal but make sure you get the real deal which has to be from Cornwall. A guaranteed orgasmic experience is Rodda’s clotted cream from Waitrose (and probably other supermarkets too).

Thanks Mark! The first few days I’ll be a tourist and I’ll be staying right by Trafalgar Square. Sunday I head back out towards Heathrow where we have an office and I’ll be working from out there with colleagues. I’m super encouraged by everyone’s responses!!! Thanks for the reply!

Also in Soho (near Chinatown), and probably at the other end of the scale, is “Herman the German”, who specialises in various types of German sausage. It’s more of a small fast-food joint really, if you just want something quick and unfussy, although you can sit down. You don’t need to have a bun with them (in fact I think they charge separately for those).
