Another Keto book coming out soon, of course

#1

Well, 2017 is certainly the year of Keto. Mark Sisson’s book (The Keto Reset Diet) comes out on Oct. 3.

If my handle and avatar don’t give it away, I’m a big fan of Mark Sisson’s and hope he brings something new (and sane and balanced) to the wide gulf between keto sanity (this forum) and keto insanity elsewhere (calories don’t matter! add butter to your butter! drink these chemicals we just made!). My initial instinct from reading the post is that it’ll be Keto 101, and might be old hat for many of us. And, I also suspect he Keto-Fied his Primal Blueprint by overlaying keto over his time-tested Primal Blueprint concepts. (Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.) We shall see.

Regardless, I’m particularly intrigued by the fact that he N=1’d himself for the last 18 months by going (and tracking!) keto. I’m very curious to hear his take/reaction and experiences on his N=1 given his strong sciency background on this stuff.

Meanwhile, this is an interesting screenshot from one of his promos. (That’s BPC on the right.)

I am a huge fan of Sisson as well. Excited to see what this says! I like to call his way of eating a “fresher” keto as I am someone who really feels better when I get lots of green stuff in my diet.

If anyone is interested he had a great podcast episode on The Joe Rogan Experience about his philosophies.

I’m going to go check that out right now, thanks! (I just listened to Joe Rogan’s interview with Dom D’Agostino and it was great.)

Joe Rogan is probably one my my top 3 favorite humans. His podcast rocks.

Some of my earliest info that ended up leading me to Keto came from Mark Sisson. Ya, Keto sure does seem to have exploded. I first got curious about it way back in 2007. Ran across one article somewhere. There really was no info on it. Then I ran across an article on ketoacidosis and got scared off it. Fast forward to 2015 and I start finding a handful of legitimate and informative sites and I get started again for real. Now just two years later it’s become a fad. That bugs me. But I do appreciate the sanity as @PrimalBrian said of this forum.
I scrolled through all the episodes of Joe Rogan but didn’t find Mark Sisson listed. Can you give me a hint as to approximate date or episode number? @jilliangordona @jwwleonard Thanks!

It’s episode 752

752, hadn’t scrolled far enough. Awesome, thanks!

There’s nothing wrong with BPC if used as a meal replacement, void of any nutrients, but its quick and easy for when you’re on the go!

I suspect Sisson’s take on it will be to put it in the “Don’t-Do-This-Regularly” category. He tends to be very non-dogmatic and recognizes that rigidity in eating plans is a recipe for failure. This is why his 80/20 rule is so successful for many people (eat the right things 80 percent of the time, perhaps more, and for the 20 percent, try and choose the least of all evils and don’t worry about it).

I think I will buy the book even though there may not be too much new info. I think it’s a great way to support people’s work. Mark gives away a lot of free info, so it’s nice to give something back.

Also looking forward to reading about the extra benefits he got from keto as I assume he was already feeling pretty good on his Primal lifestyle.

I bought this book as an Audiobook last week and have just finished listening to it. I’ve read most if not all of the obvious Keto/Low Carb/High Fat/Fasting books and this is probably the best I’ve come across so far - really good for the beginner and experienced keto’er alike. I was so I’mpressed I’ve just ordered 2 hard copies as well, one for me (for all of the recipes) and one for a family member. Highly recommended.

I was surprised to find where I’ve been going wrong for a long time. I do a fasted run most mornings (usually 5km); but - I go way too fast to stay in fat burning (Heart Rate up around 170bpm) so I’m essentially using stored glycogen every morning, forcing my body to replenish it through gluco-neogenisis and making myself crave food all morning.

I’m making a simple change and slowing down to run below my MAF threshold (180-Age) so I know I’m ONLY using fat, and I should be able to run fasted then keep fasting through to lunchtime or later. Hopefully that should transform things as I’ve been plateaued for a while.
