Annoyed by those seeking attention

(M) #1

Does anybody else get annoyed by all the videos on the internet of people making a show of chowing down on raw foods like meat and liver. They don’t seem to care about their health or the animals but rather are seeking attention. I think it does a disservice to people trying a carnivore based diet to heal themselves in many ways.

(Robin) #2

Nope. Don’t watch. Don’t care.

Of course they’re seeking attention, attention means clicks, and clicks means money! Very few full time YouTube idiots are the people you think they are.

(Joey) #5

Try clearing your YouTube history feature and turning it off.
I must be on a different feed as I’ve never seen/heard of such content.

(M) #6

I don’t watch either for the most part but there are times I’ll go on YouTube to view how somebody cooks something and these videos come up. It just bugs me these people exist.

(Bacon is a many-splendoured thing) #7

Well, there’s your problem, right there.

(M) #8

I have to agree with you Paul.

(KCKO, KCFO) #9

Ditto.

Unfortunately, YouTube is a sewer. Apart from Low Carb Down Under events and Sabine Hossenfelder’s physics channel, I don’t watch anything but specialist music (Renaissance polyphony, mostly). It took me years to learn how not to look at the recommended list that YouTube comes up with.

I just look at some clips about games I play. That’s all. I used to look for some Keto recipes, until I realized they were all unnecessarily complicated.

YouTube will show you anything you wanna watch. If you wanna be shocked by people eatin’ steaks, it’ll show you those all day long.

(Peter - Don't Fear the Fat ) #13

YouTube is mainly populated by people out to take our money. Their profile is growing making it harder to find anything worth while.
Though I do find value in things like ‘How to clean the carburettor on a 1973 Honda 90’ :hugs:

I basically live on YT, my bad  But it hardly will change any time soon. Now I am better and often just keep to the music and art  But there are so many great things there and I am curious.
I nearly always get great recommendations, history, music, animals, science, deep thinking about great works, wonderful arts and whatnot  As I always watch these (and many other things but I never get horrible recommendations, once I got archery shorts and I watch those now as they are good. I like to broaden my horizon).
There must be loads of crap but I don’t watch those. I know what humans are like (it’s a huge range, of course, I stick to the better ones if I want to get entertained or educated) so I don’t get shocked often.

(Allie) #15

I tend to ignore all attention seekers.

(Brian) #16

That’s the best use for it!! I am often finding things of that nature, how to do something I wanna do and watching someone do it. That way when I have to do it, I feel like I have already been there and done that and am familiar with what’s under the cover, what I’ll see when I remove that bolt, etc.

I don’t care for too much “shock” stuff or crazy cat videos. Lots of absolute garbage.

One thing I do like is that there are things like Elliot Coleman lectures on there from gardening workshops in places I’d never be able to go (just an example) that I’ve learned some good stuff from. I know, I’m probably not the typical YouTube user. Gotta seek out good stuff and interestingly YouTube will figure out the kind of stuff you want and try to offer you more stuff like it. Don’t click on junk. It learns.

I’ve never seen any videos like what you describe. I’m on Utube nearly every day but I’m selective of what I watch. There are several types of videos and channels that I watch and all of them are for learning and keeping me informed of the world around me. They are comprised of political commentary, food recipes, the law, health & nutrition, how to fix things and leather work. Utube is just like anything else in life you can control it or you can let it control you. It boils down to your choices.

I have been carnivore for 20 months, I watch a lot of carni YT videos, and I have never seen this. What I see is a lot of different YT characters who clearly enjoy lots of carni benefits and want to share their journey and stories. Some of the vids are better than others, but I have never seen anyone eating anything raw. Maybe YT knows that I would not be impressed? :joy::joy::joy:

Paul Saladino was eating raw eggs (only the yolks, not the whites, which he said had something bad in them) and raw liver. Now, I cook my liver so that it’s seared on the outside and a bit raw on the inside, but I haven’t been eating it raw. I don’t think raw is necessary bad, though. I probably can’t do it after years of being cultured not to eat raw meat, but then again I eat a lot of fat at times, and I was against that for years.

Raw egg whites are fine, you just lose some biotin. With my old yolk consumption (several a day for many years) I never had to limit my raw egg white consumption  (It wasn’t high anyway, just 1-2 per day at most.)
But yolks suit raw eating better, they are even more valuable that way I have read… I don’t care, yolks are the bomb either way and I eat it the way I please.

I don’t eat raw meat (I fry the hell out of all kinds, usually. there are exceptions, mostly beef) except smoked pork, of course, it’s very common to eat that raw. Sometimes I cook it but I like the chewiness too.
But after hanging out with the carnivores on this forum, I don’t even bat an eye if I see raw items on someone’s plate  (Like raw testicle. It’s allegedly good, heard from multiple sources so I would totally try it cooked but not raw. I have my principles and I am fine with cooked meat so I keep that.)
