Animal kingdom parallels

(Consensus is Politics) #1

Everytime I get to thinking about weight loss, muscle growth, I think about cows and lions. A cow, being a herbivore, free range or not, gets little exercise and eats a lot of carbs. They tend to get beefed up, and very fatty. One might say the best tasting beef is also the fattiest.

Polar opposite would be lions. Lean, strong, killing machines. Carnivores. The two animals do have one thing in common. Very little exercise.

I could be way off. I’m basing this on my own nature channel observation. I used to watch “Mutual of Ohmahas: Wild Kingdom” every week as a kid. Poor ol’ Jim (or Steve, I don’t remember the younger guys name) he was always in there being the one to get up close and personal :scream:. Anyway… what I seem to remember about lions, male lions anyway, they were the strongest, and toughest fighters. Yet, they pretty much just layer around more than I do.

I’ve always figured it must be something hormonal. Something that keeps their muscles from atrophy while they just lay in the shade snoozing while the females went out hunting. I could see and understand why the females were so strong and muscular. But the males? Something hidden, that keeps them buff. I don’t recall hearing about lions ever being to fat to do anything. Unlike us humans, if we lay around as much as a male lion, well, we’d be in a sad state.

There is a joke about lions and cows. Something about lions trying to eat like cows, and cows trying to eat like lions. And both end up dying.

I know, this hasn’t much to do with diabetes or Keto. I just felt like sharing the thought.
